idk.

yeah your right about the defense but they fired Marrone after a 9-7 season in his 2nd yr. with that 4th rank defense you mentioned.  before that 2014 season they were ranks 20 and over so maybe it was a mirage. unless Marrone is a lying snake too, there is something up with ownership at that time.

Marrone really isn't a bad coach.  Meanwhile, Jim Schwartz was/is an elite DC and they stupidly brought in a defensive-minded HC in Rex Ryan (Schwartz was fired for no good reason) who had an elite pass-rushing DL dropping back into coverage on zone blitzes, prompting his own players to criticize him:

On Tuesday, defensive tackle Marcell Dareus backed up recent complaints by defensive end Mario Williams, saying that Ryan calling for the players to drop back in coverage isn't a winning formula.

"Hey, like [Williams] said, they pay us a lot of money. And we want to use our talents the best way we know how. If we're going to be dropping we don't want to get questions about not getting sacks. That's just how it is," Dareus said Tuesday, according to Yahoo! Sports.

By then Rex Ryan was a dinosaur and the league had passed him by.

Bills Ownership got duped by Rex and then got their sh*t together just 2 years later.  I wish ours would do the same.  Maybe then Jets fans will no longer be pining for the days of Rex Ryan, a HC with a career losing record and one who couldn't even get an interview with the U of Miami despite expressing interest in the job.

There's very good reasons why Rex Ryan hasn't sniffed a HC job at the pro or collegiate level in over 4 years, and it isn't just because he's not a good coach.

Where the hell do you come up with this crap? You know less than nothing. Ground and pound is a very viable offense. One that Rex advocated to great success. The great thing about Rex is he allows his OC to run the offense. Any great leader knows when to take a step back. The only reason why Rex didn't win the SB here was because Sanchez was sh*t and the GM sucked.

Ground and pound in an era where all the rules are slanted to a passing attack is a viable offense to those who are nostalgic about old time football.

It only works if your defense is able to hold the other team from scoring less than 20 points per game. Rex was blessed with good to above average defenses so it was relatively successfully. But when he chips were down against quality teams in the Playoffs , his D couldn't answer the bell.

And yes Rex let his OC run the offense as long as it featured ground & pound.

The reason why Rex didn't win a SB is because his vaunted D sh*t the bed against the Steelers in the 1st half .
