People close to Trevor “Are Jets the place you really want to be?”

Recommended Posts

It amazes me that people 100% believe that there is zero chance he forces a trade.

There is ACTUAL precedent for this a couple times in the history of the NFL draft, and the conditions for it to happen again are lining up.

I’d say there’s a very slim chance. Not zero. But slim.

Its just the stench of Gase and what the team is now. Once they purge all that, get their HC and Douglas and his team can sit down with Lawerence, it’ll be okay. If Gase was still here, he’d 100 percent force a trade.

We have been a terrible destination long before Gase. Theres going to need to be some pretty solid offseason moves to alleviate concerns.

A respectable coach and not a first time HC along with some very serious FAs.

Precedence isn't the same situation as those couple instances in the past. 99.9999% chance he'll be drafted by whoever gets the #1 pick.

So dumb.  He just said goodbye to Clemson fans and staff on his last home game.  He’s coming out, hay! And we are all here to celebrate!

The best part of this stupidity is, what are his choices?  Staying in school?  Ok cool, well then guess who has the #1 overall in 2022?

Say he won’t play for us. We trade him to Jax or Washington? He wants to play for those orgs? Or will be command a trade to Indy, Green Bay, perhaps the Chiefs....

This will be a good place for him. Nothing can be worse than this year so it's only upside from here. Number 1 sports market. Gase will be gone. A franchise LT plus some other promising young players. Plenty of cap space and draft picks, including 5 in the top 90. Things are bleak now but they could be a lot different in 2 years.

The situation is lining up as an exact 1 to 1 to the Eli Manning trade.

Not saying it will happen, but there is easily more than .01% chance.

Exactly.

And every year he waits = an extra year before he gets to sign his extension after his 3rd or 4th season that will be worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

To force a trade. Like Eli did.

Completely different situation.  Eli didn’t think SD would be able to pay his contract demands, that’s why he forced a trade.  Now that the contracts are slotted, if anything, him forcing a trade loses him money.

Lawrence can actually be walking into a premium situation. This is the possible offense he can have around him next year:

RB: Etienne/Harris, Perine

WR: ARob/Godwin/JuJu, Mims, Crowder, Perriman

TE: Hunter Henry, Herndon

OL: Thuney and Becton

Lawrence can thrive right away with the right personnel and coaching staff obviously. This is what Joe D will have to sell to him

Google 'joe burrow should avoid the bengals' and you get the same story not even one year old

That's fine, but it's not the same story every single year, and certainly not to the level that it is this time.

This is a story that pretty much only happens with QBs.

That was only a PART of why he forced the trade. His family also didnt want him to play for San Diego because they sucked donkey nuts for decades.

Who’s he gonna force a trade to? Jacksonville? Does anybody realize what teams past the top 5 will need to give up for this kid???

I dunno, if there was a more appealing team at 2 or 3 there might be an argument... but we’re talking first and second round picks for years of a team outside of the top 5 wanted this kid. Dallas of course is appealing but they will resign Dak

They are going to hire a coach that is pleasing to Trevor and one that can get the most out of his talents.

They have the most cap space in the NFL.

It is the NY market. If you win with the Jets you are a legend forever.

Joe Douglas had a very good first draft and this team is loaded with draft picks.

The second Gase is fired the ENTIRE narrative around this franchise changes.

I dont believe that changes the second Gase is fired at all.

It changes the second a respectable coach is actually hired that makes sense for the team.

Theres still room to screw this up, and the Jets do not get the benefit of the doubt until the moment they pick that coach.

Multiple examples of precedent.  And for anyone who thinks it definitely won't happen, ask yourself if it was your son, what would you do?

The thing is, the Jets do have a couple things going for them here.

1.  There should be enough time for JD to link up with whoever Lawerence's agent is and let them know what his plan is and to also allow some level of input into the HC.  Thats very important.

2.  We have draft picks and Cash to build around a QB on a rookie deal.

3.  If Lawerence does pull a power play, Jacksonville is a good spot for him as its a southern location and they have the picks to make a swap.  If its fields or even Lance as the #2 QB, JD can come away with a QB and another first round pick.
