The worst post-merger NFL teams of all-time (based on point differential): Where will the 2020 Jets end up?

Recommended Posts

Thru 11 weeks, the 2020 Jets have been outscored by 170 points.  That puts the team on pace to be outscored by 247 points on the season.  In comparison to the worst teams of all-time, that finish would place the Jets 8th on the list of worst teams (post-merger) in NFL history:

  1. 1976 Buccaneers (0-14):  -287 net points
  2. 1990 Patriots (1-15):  -265
  3. 2009 Rams (1-15):  -261
  4. 2000 Browns (3-13):  -258
  5. 1972 Patriots (3-11):  -254
  6. 2008 Lions (0-16):  -249
  7. 1973 Oilers (1-13):  -248
  8. 1991 Colts (1-15):  -238
  9. 1986 Buccaneers (2-14):  -234
  10. 1990 Browns (3-13):  -234

Earlier in the season, the Jets seemed like a lock to end up in the top 2 or 3 teams ever, but their play of late has moved them down the list.

With 5 tough opponents down the stretch, it seems realistic they could still end up in the top 5.

Point differential or no point differential you can't include the Patriots X2, the Bucs of 86, the Rams, the Browns X2 (1990/2000), the Oilers or the Colts as worst teams ever because they actually won a game and didn't fail @ going absolutely winless.

It's only between (after the merger)...

1976 Buccaneers: 0-14 and -287 (-20.5 PPG).

2008 Detroit Lions: 0-16 and -249 (-15.5 PPG).

2020 New York Jets: 0-11 and -170 (-15.4 PPG).

2017 Cleveland Browns: 0-16 and -176 (-11. PPG).

It's not even right/fair to mention teams who've actually won a game or two (or three) with these 4 winless teams above within the same sentence.

I couldn't care less if we go winless here in 2020 because outside of the 1968-1969 season we've been an awful Franchise and it could literally take going 0-16 (and Trevor Lawrence) to turn our lovable losing and lowly Franchise around for many of years to come; and if we ever win a Super Bowl? This 0-16 season will be worn as a badge of honor while making our first future SB Victory since dating back to Joe Namath taste even sweeter (after everything we've been through); as the true definition of "worst to first".

It’s that a$$hole Flacco zipping the long balls all over the place. I want that record of the worst team in history. It was ours! That old man has ruined our rightful position as the all time turd of the NFL!
