DraftKings Line: Seattle -13.5

The New York Jets aren't getting blown out as often as they were earlier this season, while the Seattle Seahawks haven't "blown out" an opponent since defeating the Atlanta Falcons by 13 points in Week 1. Not exactly a runaway victory.

But the majority of our writers figure it's finally time for Seattle to make a statement with a home game against a Jets team that just humiliated itself with a last-second loss that resulted in the firing of its defensive coordinator.

Sure, Seattle just lost to the Giants, but Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson usually bounces back from poor performances (like when he threw three picks against the Cardinals in Week 7 or when he posted a season-low passer rating of 57.0 against the Rams in Week 10) with really damn good ones (he threw four touchdown passes in Week 8 and posted a 119.8 rating in Week 11).

Now, he's likely in a bad mood coming off his second-lowest-rated game of the season, and it's hard to imagine a Jets pass defense that ranks dead last in DVOA keeping up with Wilson, DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.

Predictions
Davenport: New York
Gagnon: New York
Kahler: Seattle
Miller: Seattle
Sobleski: Seattle
Tesfatsion: Seattle
Consensus: Seattle -13.5

Score Prediction: Seattle 34, New York 17

I live in Seattle.  Expect them to come out strong.  They have taken a lot of criticism out here.  The usual is for the press and fans to give them the "they walk on water" treatment.

If the Jets can run the football, then a real game is possible.  But there is no way the Jets can cover Seattle WR's.  They are big, fast and physical.

And the Jets, like many coastal teams, do not travel well.

I'm expecting a blow out.

The pain of seeing Jamal smirk after the Seahags wipe the field with us

I’m fine with losing but I want Gase targeting Adams on multiple RB wheel routes, crossing patterns right in front of him and finally power runs behind Becton right at Adams. I want to see him exposed for what he is

Becton tackle eligible play throw to him and let him steam roll Jamal in the secondary.

We will see, I think Seattle is not really a very strong team and teams are starting to figure out Wilson better. I don't expect us to win but it will not be a blowout

I can't wait until Sam craps the bed against the NFL's worst pass defense this Sunday.

Darnold believers and supporters will then have to go into hiding (forever) out of embarrassment; like Scott Norwood of the Buffalo Bills once did.

And after this game Jets pass defense will rank below Seattle's pass defense after Wilson goes for 350+.

I used to be a homer. Heck speaking of Sunshine I even once won the TGG Ray of Sunshine award back in 2008-2009...

RobA: "DWC was easily the most optimistic poster this year, guy made a new thread every week before the game to get everyone pumped up and talk about how we were going to win. I'm actually surprised my run lasted this long (I don't think I deserved this award passed 2005), happy to pass it on after 3 years. I'm far from the days of making playoff scenario threads with a record of 2-7".

And ever since then I at least had false HOPE under Todd Bowles but Adam Gase? Nah. He's turned me into a Darksider who now has to root AGAINST my favorite team to lose just for a dream of a brighter Jets future; Adam Gase sucks the fun right out of you as a fan. He's poison.

It’s an important moment in every Jets fan’s life when he realizes no amount of positive vibes or magical thinking is going to have any impact on the embarrassment that is the NYJ. Better to honor truth and place facts over feelings.

This is a real important life lesson, also. Welcome to the dark side.

Assuming they won't sign a street free agent at this point, I will predict the following roster moves for the game:

  1. If Bless Austin is healthy, he will be added to the open spot on the roster
  2. With Mims out, one of the practice squad WRs will be elevated - my guess would be Jaleel Scott - Cager doesn't have any more "free" elevations (IMHO Cager and Scott are the best 2 PS WRs)
  3. With Davis and Bennett likely out at S, Saquan Hampton will be called up from the practice squad
  4. It's entirely possible Davis and Bennett will be IR'd prior to the game - if so, Hampton could be signed to the active roster

All that is wild speculation, of course

Wild speculation is what keeps me coming back to JN.  I salute you for the attempt!

It's kind of like every Jets fan needs to go through a second puberty to become a grizzled, sarcastic, pessimistic SOJF.

So, basically you're saying I should take the over on Wilson & Metcalf for yards and TDs?

Here's the "danger" with this kind of bet. Wilson is such an absolute stud, Lockett or even David Moore could lead that team in targets/production any given week. The power of a true FQB.

That moment for me was Vinny blowing out his Achilles. Losing the AFC championship was a gut shot to my sunshiner outlook, but that was the upper cut that knocked me down.

Friday Updates

OUT:  WR Mims, G Van Roten, LB Jordan, S Davis, S Bennett
QUESTIONABLE: WR Crowder, G Elflin
ACTIVATED OFF IR: CB Austin

  • With 10 Offensive Linemen on the roster, we can probably go with the 8 healthy ones we have without elevating anyone from the PS
  • If Crowder is a no go, we will have to elevate a WR - Jaleel Scott probably
  • With 7 CBs and 2 Safeties, we MIGHT be able to go with that - especially if 1 of the CBs can play S (Or Hampton could be elevated from the PS)
  • With Jordan Jenkins out, we may elevate a LB, probably Bruce Hager who looked pretty good on Special Teams in his earlier game as active
  • Summary - we probably need help at WR, LB, and S for the game but can only activate 2 players
  • Still a possibility that 1-3 players will go on IR today or tomorrow, which would open up some flexibility/options

One other note: TE Ross Travis was added to the active roster but has not been active for any game.  Makes me wonder if another team was trying to poach him and the Jets were forced to add him to the Active Roster
