I have no idea what he means.  But we've actually never seen this movie before.  Not in the post-merger NFL at least.

Jets fans should be far more afraid of passing on a QB who goes on to greatness (like Peyton, Russell Wilson and Pat Mahomes, all QB's the Jets could have had) than taking a QB who disappoints.

The more talented (not necessarily better) backups tend to go to teams where the starter isn't entrenched. Teams with an entrenched starter aren't going to pay top price and they have no hope of ever starting.
