A few years back we were all cheering "Suck for Sam!' Well, we got our wish. We suck & we got Sam. (USC Qb's never pan out) Now we are trying this again. "Tank for Trevor!' Now who do we get to coach the kid, OTHER WISE IN THREE YEARS WE WILL BE DOING THIS AGAIN.

its about the player not being a bust more than the coach, but yeah, theres still bust risk

Suck for Sam 2018!

Tank for Trevor 2021!

Blow for Bob 2024!

Lose for Lou 2027!

Fail for Frederick 2030!

Trounced for Tom 2034!

Suffer for Samuel 2038!

Squander for Saquon 2040!

Etc.

It might have given Darnold a chance if the Jets went 1-15 in 2017 and kept the 3 2nd rounders rather than playing McCown and winning 5 meaningless games. I'm sure some of you got great enjoyment from that 5-11 season and take pride in those wins and escaping the embarrassment of going 0-16 or 1-15.  Those 5 wins set the foundation for a winning culture and a successful rebuild. The Jets could have drafted Will Hernandez or Nick Chubb  and DJ Chark and Deebo Samuel with those picks. Instead we got the unbridled joy from beating Jacksonville and Cleveland and Buffalo and the Chiefs- if anyone can even remember those wins.

D.K Metcalf was the very last player selected during the 2nd round; during a draft in which we didn't have a 2nd round pick (thnx to Macc/Sam).

Remember when the Colts once drafted Jeff George #1 overall before getting lucky the next time they drafted #1 overall by selecting Peyton Manning?

The Colts drafted Jeff George #1 overall during the 1990 NFL draft and by the time 1994 came around (only had him for 4 years) Jeff George was already an Atlanta Falcons.

Does that mean by the time 1998 came around and the Colts (once again) had the #1 overall pick that they should've simply ran away from Peyton Manning all because "Jeff George" busted before him; instead of swinging on a can't miss #1 rated blue chip QB prospect since dating back to only John Elway in #18?

You see.

The Colts took a (no brainier) gamble that paid off while @ the same time providing their young Franchise LT in Tarik Glenn (drafted the year before Manning and ended up becoming a 3x Pro Bowler and SB Champion) and a young WR in Marvin Harrison; with a true Franchise QB in order to develop alongside of.

Just like our Jets are on the verge of doing with Trevor Lawrence for both of Mekhi Becton and Denzel Mims; providing these kids with a true blue chip Franchise QB in order to develop alongside of.

And after Indianapolis had Manning/Harrison/Glenn in place @ QB/LT/WR? The very next draft they had the luxury of drafting a RUNNING BACK in Edgerrin James with the 4th overall pick of the 1st round (1999).

The rest was history in the makings...

Whether we finish 0-16, 3-13, or anything in between, this franchise still needs a QB and will be drafting one.  Deal with it.

Do you think the Jets would take the 4th best QB in the Draft (the leftover) or use the pick to build the team and hold off on QB until 2022?

I think I'd rather have them take the 2nd best WR or the 2nd best OT rather than the 4th best QB.

It could have been worse.  We could have spent $30mil a year on Cousins to be less than mediocre.

Now at least we have another top pick to try again.

99.7, 107.4 and 102.7 are his QB Ratings for the three years in Minnesota. That easily trumps any QB Rating numbers a Jets QB has put up in the franchise history. I don’t know about you but I think a QB with those kinds of stats would’ve changed the direction of this dumpster fire organization. Not to mention having three extra second rounders AND Quenton Nelson (who was drafted with the original Jets pick). So picking between Sam and Kirk is an easy choice with hindsight on our hand. Not sure how you came up with “It could have been worse”.

One of the better offensive lines in the game.

One of the best RBs.

And a very good WR corps.

Cousins here would have been a disaster.

Not sure how you're comparing the QB rating of a $30mil QB with one of the better offenses, to Sam on the disgrace that is the Jets offense.

Sorry to say but Sam has been sh*t even when he has had time to throw.

And maybe Kirks offense is one of the better offense cuz he’s a tad bit better than our beloved 0-13 QB.

Good.   I'm just happy the Jets are taking more 1st rd QB's until they get i right. There was a 17 yr gap between Kenny O and Chad. Ridiculous.

I wonder if Arizona fans complained this much when they were taking Kyler Murray.

There's always bust risk. Always. There are no sure things.

But we still need a QB. The quarterback play this year has been really bad. It's a weakness. It also happens to be the most important position in team sports.

So . . . yeah.

You are correct, always a bust risk. But if Trevor isn't a successful QB in the league, I will be surprised.

Just think how much tanking, blowing, losing, failing, trouncing, suffering or squandering we can save ourselves from if Trevor is anywhere near as talented as advertised and the Jets give this QB the tools to succeed

A ridiculously high percentage of college star QBs fail, its the nature of the beast.  Doesnt mean we should stop wanting one or drafting one and if we do wont stop reacting the same way.  Again, its being a fan.

Maybe but then they would have had the draft picks they gave the dolts to move up a few spaces.  If they signed cousins they still would’ve been able to draft Allen.  That’s not a bad way to build for the future.  And it’s not like cousins is a terrible QB.
