As the rumor goes, the Jets supposedly covet former USC QB Matt Leinart. Hopefully this is just another pre-draft speculation because unless it's Abe / 4 for 1 I don't like it one bit and even then I don't because I don't think Leinart is anything special. There is no reason to trade up to draft Leinart. There is Cutler at 4 if we do not want to go out and trade for Ramsey or Schaub or pick up Kitna and go with Croyle later on in the draft. CluJet
Where does this come from? Since when did we take an interest in Leinart? Whatever, it can't be a valid rumor. He might even be there at 4, if we did like him, since the Saints are reportedly creaming themselves over Cutler. If that is the case, then D'Brick should be the choice, without hesitation. Barton
BS But if it did happen, the only way Leinart would bust is if he gets injured. I read he's already had surgery on his throwing elbow, is there anything else he's had surgery on??......? He's got a stonger arm then Chad Pennington - without question. RSJ
Leinart could just be a smokescreen. That being said - I would like the pick. I do not believe his arm is as weak as some say. All lefties throw wierd and do not appear to have strong arms. The things I like about him is his ability to handle the pressure of big games and big time media attention. I also like his poise and based on Mangini's relationship with Pete Carroll I think he would be able to do his full homework on him.

sirlancemehlot
Yessss! I love it!!! The pick? No...there's no way this rumor's legit. The fact that nobody has any fugging clue as to what the hell we're going to do in the draft, what we plan on doing with our pick, if we want more picks or higher picks or a QB or a RB or an OT or what color underwear I'm wearing (if any)...it all smacks of diversion, derision and manipulation. I feel like I'm back in college and trying to get a little action again. God, How I miss diversion, derision and maniplation. Or at least being the one who's using them to his advantage. I swear I'll find my wife's stash of sulphur grenades if it kills me. As far as I can tell, she's being supplied by my mother and my best friend. I figure if I can take them out, my wife won't be able to use her diversionary tactics any more! Hah! I'll miss mom though. Boy, could she bake. Ten
Leinart would be a solid player to build around.Smart, accurate and he seems like less of a risk than Cutler,Young and possibly Croyle(we can't have another injury prone player as the future of this franchise). The main problem with drafting Leinart is that we have no RT,it's the main reason why we can't give up our second if we were to trade up for him. Greensince69
Trade Abe, Trade Down, Get an OT, OG, Center, RB And Kudla in the first 3 rounds. We need bodies and bodies in the mumbles mangini vien, smart football players, team first, and a little nasty in them. We need to hit a lot of doubles here, don't need the home run this year. There is no reason to trade up to draft Leinart. There is Cutler at 4 if we do not want to go out and trade for Ramsey or Schaub or pick up Kitna and go with Croyle later on in the draft. Actually, it is a valid rumor. Serby took the lead on this with today's post & yes, the Texans would be looking at ABE/our #4 for their #1... PENNINGTON 'ANXIOUS' TO FIGHT FOR HIS JOB By STEVE SERBY As rumors began flying that the Jets are candidates to trade up with the Texans and land the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft, which they would use on quarterbacks Matt Leinart or Jay Cutler, Chad Pennington broke his silence and sounded ready to fight for his job, assuming he still has one. "My arm and shoulder are fine," Pennington was quoted as saying in yesterday's Sarasota Herald Tribune. "I'm anxious to get started." Pennington, who has been rehabbing his second rotator cuff injury at the IMG Academies in Bradenton, was fishing. He will be fishing for a new team if ongoing negotiations in Indianapolis between his agent, Tom Condon, and new Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum, do not come to an amicable conclusion. Condon has rejected the Jets' proposed 2006 pay cut from $9 million to $1 million. In the first public acknowledgment that he was either insulted or stunned or both by the Jets' opening salvo, Pennington said: "They want to pay me less than what most backup quarterbacks are making." Pennington apparently was joking when he referred to a Post story in which two anonymous players suggested the Jets would be better off cutting him. "I'm glad I'm down here and not up there," Pennington said. "I've heard my teammates don't want me back." But Curtis Martin, who carries the most weight in the locker room, definitely wants Pennington back, as does Laveranues Coles. No matter what happens, the Jets' quarterback position will be up for grabs come training camp. Texans GM Charley Casserly is openly shopping the top pick, which the Jets would use on Pennington's successor. The Jets are logical partners, because disgruntled defensive end John Abraham would have great appeal to the Texans, who are desperate for a pass rush. In addition, the Texans have a crying need to protect their recently re-signed QB, David Carr, and can grab blue-chip left tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson at No. 4 should they swap picks with the Jets. "I think there's value in our pick," Casserly said. "Whether it's Reggie Bush, Vince Young or Matt Leinart, those three players are going to produce trade offers." Combine notes: Texans say they'd consider trading first pick Feb. 26, 2006 CBS SportsLine.com wire reports INDIANAPOLIS -- Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush might not land with the Houston Texans after all. Texans general manager Charley Casserly said Sunday that the Texans have been talking to teams about possibly trading the first pick in the 2006 draft. It has been widely speculated that the Heisman Trophy winning running back out of Southern California would end up with the Texans because they recently gave quarterback David Carr a three-year contract extension. The Texans, who finished 2-14 last season, have multiple needs that might be filled with one major move. "There's clearly players at the top of this draft that are marquee players," Casserly said. "Players that are impact players, players that are going to go to the Pro Bowl, players that are going to sell tickets. We're going to get offers for this pick. We've already had discussions with teams. I think there's value in our pick. "Whether it's Reggie Bush, Vince Young or Matt Leinart, those three players are going to produce trade offers. We are definitely going to have some choices when it comes to draft day." Oh & Max, I edited this because I spelled OUR as ORU because even I couldn't believe we might be giving up so much in trade! The Jets are in desperate need for talent right now largely because of Terry Bradway's penchant for trading away picks in the first place! They ain't gonna fix the problem by trading away more picks! I'd be far more interested in trading down from #4 than trading up. And I'm no Leinart fan, either. He might be the most NFL ready QB. The lowest "risk." But I see him as the QB with the lowest ceiling, too. The guy most likely to be a pretty good NFL QB, and nothing much more than that. That's not the kind of player you trade up for, and pay #1 overall ca$h to. I'm not on the Young bandwagon, either, but I have a much easier time envisioning him as a future superstar than Leinart. I was just getting used to the Cutler concept, too.
