The case for drafting Ja'Marr Chase at #2 overall

Ja'Marr Chase is on pace for 85 receptions, 1831 yards, and 15 TDs in a 17 game season.  He has 754 receiving yards in his first 7 games, which is an NFL record.  He is averaging 21.5 yards per catch.

It was plain silly for people to say he's not worthy of a top 5 pick and should not be in consideration at #2 overall.

He was both worthy of a top 5 pick AND not the player the Jets should take at 2.

The Bengals were smart for taking him because they already had Burrow. We wouldn't be seeing the same Jamar Chase if we had kept Darnold or brought in a Tyrod Taylor/Dalton type.

Taking a WR at 2 would have been an overpayment for the position and a terrible decision under the circumstances even if you knew 100% the player had HOF talent and durability. With the lousy roster Darnold would have made Chase his #1 target but teams would have draped defenders all over him. Asking a WR to catch poorly thrown passes while double teamed is not a good strategy. Once Chase could get out of NY he would.

This team has to get good across the depth chart before it can afford to pay a lot in FA or the draft to pick up stars, QB aside.

haters going to hate

the op was 1000% correct before the draft and now as well-have no issue with his victory lap-try and spin all you want he was right-Chase is elite might be the best WR in the league very soon-dont fret though you will see him vs the jets maybe he puts up 300 yards vs the jets

no it wasnt first off his numbers are not anywhere close to that on our team . Maybe no silly but it would be stupid.

People would rather trade down pass up on a hall of famer because of "value" . LOL  Some of you guys watch way too many PFF Youtube videos and try to out think the room.

So you knew Ja'Marr Chase would have HOF-caliber talent and production at the NFL level prior to the draft?  Show us the receipts, please.

Obviously, we'd all take a future HOF WR at # 1 overall in any year.  The problem is its really hard to predict which WRs are going to be HOFers.  Corey Davis, John Ross, Kevin White, Sammy Watkins and Justin Blackmon are among the top 10 picks at WR in the last decade who failed to live up to expectations.

There's usually groupings of players so trading out and passing on elite level prospects just to collect more picks and lesser prospects I'm not in favor of.  Same goes for the opposite you had people crying about a third round pick to trade up into the top 10 and select a better lineman prospect.  I didn't know Chase was a sure fire HOFer but him and Pitts were about as safe a bet as there is.
