The Gun Of Bavaria
What's your favorite mainstream beer? No 'regional', 'local' or 'area 'microbrews' please. I'll start:
DHJF
Rolling Rock - From the glass lined tanks of the Latrobe Brewing Company, Latrobe PA. My favorite ULTRA-CHEAP beer is Schlitz (The beer that made Milwaukee famous) (Note: Odd that my 666th post was about beer...)

Dr. Strangelove
Since Point Beer is apparently not allowed, I'll take Miller Lite

vanDoug
Molson's and Labatt's. Damn good stuff. Guess that's not mainstream where y'all live, eh?

JerryK
I think if you lined up all the watery American beers side by side, you'd be surprised how much color and flavor Pabst has. A couple months ago I had to travel to Wisconsin where you can still get it on tap. Good stuff, and cheap. ....In fact, I'm going to crack one in a few minutes. A close second might be Strohs..but after a few the smoky flavor got kind of annoying to me.
haggis
Best mainstream or best cheap? Best Mainstream: Miller Lite. Best Cheap: Miller High-Life (in a bottle) or Pabst.
T-Mac
My fave is Newcastle Brown Ale, but in the quantities I imbibe, it makes more sense to go lighter. Stella Artois is the current trend for me. Honorable mention: Anchor Steam, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Sam Adams. Brooklyn Lager is readily available in this area, but falls short of your criteria for "mainstream" PS, Guns do you realize that Miller goes against German purity laws? Corn and rice and other adjuncts do NOT belong in beer. As a German bred police officer I thought you'd have more respect.
vanDoug
When I go visit the U.S. MGD is a pretty safe bet. Wish Yeungling lager ( i think), that I had in upstate NY 3 weeks ago, was more available. Very good.

Funny thing though, after living in Germany for 3 years, I came back an addict to Guinness. I never was big into German beer. I liked some of the kellerbiers but that was about it

T-Mac
You've been watching those slanderous Bud Light commercials haven't you? Nope, in fact Bud uses rice. You can't ferment rice. Adjuncts are only there because the penny-pinching suits overruled the brewmasters. In it's inception, Budweiser was actually a decent beer. Many upper management decisions later... Preston Howley III
If I'm gonna drink dishwater ("mainstream" beer) I'll go with Coors or Budweiser. If I'm looking strictly for quantity, not quality (by "mainstream" standards, anyway), I'll get a 30 Pack of Milwaukee's best. It comes to about 50 cents a can. If I want to drink good beer (lager, ale etc), at a reasonable price, I'll drink Molsons Canadien. That's a damn good beer. I like dark beers and stouts, too. Guiness, Watneys, Boddington, Becks. All in all, you can't go wrong with Budweiser.

Let's face it, Budweiser sells most of it's beer to underage drinkers. Take the college crowd out of the market, and Budweiser (and Coors, too) would go straight down the tubes. They would still have restaurants and military bases, but that's it.
