Lendale White - The Dark Horse of the Draft

I agree with Curtis Martin, the Jets should take Lendale White at #4. I would not be surprised at all if he ended up being the best nfl player in this year's draft class. The guy is a beast of a running back who, being a junior, has little mileage. Draft this guy and we'll have an effective running game for the next 8-9 years.

Draft offensive and defensive linemen in rounds 2-5.

Trade Abraham for Patrick Ramsey and draft picks.

Ramsey and Lendale White. It just might work.

I have been saying for weeks that the jets should trade down and take lendale white.with the extra picks they should draft q.b. omar jacobs who will be a future star in this league [check his stats].they can get good offensive linemen with the extra picks.the jets will not sign expensive free agents.the draft is the way to go for them.

Why draft at #4 what is available at 15-25? Why draft a position at which we already have 3 players? What draft at a position of a lesser need?

Here's the current Jets depth chart at running back:

1.Curtis Martin - 33 years old, injured and at the end of his career

2. Derrick Blaylock - unspectacular back-up who Bradway overpaid for and probably will be gone after next season.

3. Cedric Houston - unimpressive third string running back whose ambition in life is to be a back-up rb/ third down back.

There is no way White lasts until #15 in the first round. Green Bay is in love with him at #5.

Running Back is definitely a need. Do not sleep on it.

I read today that LenDale admitted to having weight issues while at SoCal. I have him ranked as the second RB on my board, but the weight issue has raised a red flag with me. These teams better do their homework on him to find out if he had any motivation issues (football & academic).

He's a power back, he's supposed to weigh alot. That's how he mows over defenders. Just ask Jerome Bettis, Jamal Lewis and Larry Johnson.

Running backs have a playing weight they're supposed to maintain. They shouldn't be fluctuating 15 pounds mid-season, like LenDale White admitted. You can get away with that when you're playing Texas Univerisity, but not against NFL teams.

Indianapolis - First, LenDale White made an admission. Then he had some explaining to do.

After weighing 238 pounds for most of his recently completed junior season at USC, White said he played the national championship game against Texas in the Rose Bowl at 253.

Jerome Bettis may have retired, but the NFL is about to get a new "Bus."

"I might be the biggest back out here," White said Friday at the NFL scouting combine.

No one can deny White's superb performance on the grand stage: he had 124 yards rushing and three touchdowns in the championship game. But how does White explain jumping from 238 to 253 pounds?

"Thanksgiving and Christmas," he said.

White's weight gain not only speaks volumes about his mother's cooking, it separates him from an otherwise smallish-sized group of elite running back prospects for this year's draft. Among the top 14-rated running backs on most draft boards, White, who led the nation with 24 rushing touchdowns this past season, is the only one that weighs more than 217 pounds. The former Chatfield High School star was back down to 238 pounds for his weigh-in here, but he wants to get down to 234 before he's clocked in the 40-yard sprint for scouts, April 2 on the USC campus. "I'm kind of happy to be in this class," White said. "You get a lot more touchdowns when you're big." http://www.denverpost.com/ci_3545135?source=rss

if the jets don't trade down and take lendale white they will be making their biggest mistake in history.the suggestion coming from curtis martin tells us something.martin is a team man and he knows that this might be his last year as a running back.I hope the jets keep him in a role withe the front office.

The Jets have made and will make bigger mistakes than passing up on Lendale White buddy. You can't be afraid of mistakes. ;)

First, you guys are 1000% better than me at evaluating draft prospects. I hardly follow the draft..... but why would we give up our best picks for a RB, if there's no line to make a hole?

I'm saying this with no knowledge of the sort of linemen available low in the draft. If there aren't any OL candidates worthy of an early pick, then fine.

I admire your honesty, seriously. Most of the guys on this site haven't read up on the scouting reports of the offensive line prospects in this draft. They just say "D'Brick is available! Let's take him at #4!" without doing any serious research.

There are plenty of good OT prospects in this draft that will be available in rounds 2-5. Darryn Colledge, Andrew Whitworth, Ryan O'Calaghan, Jeremy Trueblood and Adam Stenavich just to name a few. We can rebuild the o-line in rounds 2-5. We won't get a good running back there though.

Finally, a guy with an open mind who isn't following the Mel Kiper tune. I think Curtis Martin knows what it takes to be a great running back and he sees something special in this kid.

Taking a RB in the first round is folly.

If we're not taking a QB, take Brick. End of story. Even an average RB will rush for 1k yds behind a solid OL.

In other words, I'll take my chances with Houston in '06.
