Smizzy
Jets Waive S Celestin http://www.newyorkjets.com/news/ The New York Jets announced today that safety Oliver Celestin was waived. The announcement was made by General Manager Mike Tannenbaum. Celestin, 25, concluded his second season with the Jets in 2005. The product of Texas Southern University was signed by the Jets on November 9, 2004 off of the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad. The former undrafted rookie free agent signee of the Cleveland Browns in 2003 gained a foothold in professional football by playing in NFL Europe for the Berlin Thunder in 2004 and then signed as a free agent with the Vikings before being waived and signing to their practice squad in 2004. With the Jets (2004-2005), Celestin played in 20 regular season games and recorded 31 tackles and one pass defensed on defense, including a career-high 26 tackles in 2005. On special teams, the New Orleans native added 16 special teams tackles, as well as one forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. Celestin also appeared in both of the Jets’ postseason games, playing primarily on special teams, in their 2004 postseason run.

124
Not surprising yet not a big cut either. Don't need him with Coleman, Rhodes and Washington.
Jack Straw
I'm actually disappointed with this move. I thought Celestin played well in limited duty. He's a nice third safety, can help on ST and is still young. He's also got a nice mean streak and shoots his body around like a missle.
Lady Jet
I liked Oliver as well. He somewhat reminded me of Nick Ferguson, minus the personal penalties. I thought at the very least, he was a nice special teamer/backup. And look at Nick now, he's doing pretty well for himself. I still believe that we desperately need a vet at the safety position though.

Pick up some scrub or draft someone in the 7th round to go with Washington as the back-ups back there.

He had a great rookie year and then,........ Rhodes could be promising as well. But do you honestly believe that these two (three if you include Washington as their depth) have proven themselves enough to where you think we're all set at safety? Both have played well and we don't need to waste money on a position that does not need fixing. You have 2 young up and coming safety's back there who will produce. Yeah lets spend 5 million on a veteran S so one of them can hit the bench and waste their talent meanwile we can have Sione Pouha or James Reed next to Dewayne Robertson. Stonehands
If you are going to bring 11 draft picks into camp, there have to be established players cut to create roster room. I would imagine the Jets will use a pick in the top half of the draft on a safety.
Sperm Edwards
The one thing I have confidence in with Mangini is breaking down game film. He didn't release him 1 day after the job was given to him. I'm sure he saw enough on film to warrant cutting the guy before minicamp starts. If a guy who turned Troy Brown into a safety thinks he can't do much with Celestin, I'll accept it for now.

I thought that Jets/Giants scrimmage fiasco sealed his, and Donnie Henderson's fate.
The Troll
This really isn't anything to be upset about. Mangini is a secondary coach (that knows what he is doing, big difference), and he obviously doesn't think Celestin can cut it. I'll trust his judgement until he gives me a reason not to.
