Franklin Meyers Contract?

I'd pump the brakes on the JFM hype. Kyle Phillips was much better last season playing both End and DT, led the Jets in TFL in 19. I'd rather extend Phillips and Maye than jump on the JFM bandwagon too soon. The real credit goes to Foley, Q, and Shepherd who make JFM life easy because of their constant double teams.

Lol with our cap space there is literally no reason to not keep all of them signed, and Phillips should still be on rookie contract like JFM. He has played well all year not just the one game

Looking up Franklin Meyers Numbers this guy has some studly upside. Top 15 in pressures and only only 24 years old. Gotta give Joe Douglas a ton of credit grabbing this guy and giving him time to develop. He essentially was like getting an extra draft pick for free.

The main question is: Is he considered a young stud and does he get a big contract this offseason?

Next question is why are we not switching to a 4-3 base? Yes everyone has multiple formations but perhaps its time to get two customary DE's that rush the passer instead of the scrubs we have had there for the last 10 years. It is MUCH harder to get interior lineman that can get pressure and with Franklin Meyers and Quinnen we have TWO possible studs there that are both so young. Build the defense around these two guys.

He's under contract to the Jets next year.

Waiting until your player reaches FA to resign them is extremely bad business.

For Example Marcus Maye will need to Franchised or he’ll be playing for another team next year. Good teams don’t let young studs get to FA.

There are no #1 CB in FA. There are a few quality Edge, WR and OL in FA.

That said, we need a starting QB and #1 CB in 1st round, Edge, WR, OL rd. 2-3 & RB, TE, WR, OL rd. 4-6

Jets need to send 1 of their 3rd round picks to the Saints for Marshon Lattimore! Saints are WAY OVER THE CAP! And need to start gaining draft capital again. You slide Lattimore into #1 & now Hall is #2, Bless #3 (CB/Safety). Guidry played really well in the slot. 3 cheap guys & a Stud #1!

CB Marshon Lattimore

The Saints drafted exceptionally well in 2017, which re-opened their Super Bowl window over the last few seasons.  The only downside to drafting exceptionally well in one season…the bill comes due for that draft group at the same time.  Cornerback Marshon Lattimore has been outstanding for the team, arguably serving as the team’s best player in the secondary over the past few years.  As a former first round pick, Lattimore has a fifth year option in 2021, which the Saints picked up in a no brainer move after the 2019 season.  The fifth year option is for $10.244 million in P5 salary, with no bonuses attached.  As such, the cap charge matches the P5 salary, with no cap penalties to be incurred by the Saints for trading or cutting the player.  While the Saints could make it work to keep Lattimore for 2021 and beyond, the reality is that it will take a very lucrative extension (think $18 million per year or more) to keep Lattimore in the fold over the long term.  With stud right tackle Ryan Ramczyk also needing an extension, not to mention the team needing to fill a whole host of other needs (addressing holes from roster attrition via free agency and otherwise, the 2021 draft class, practice squad and contingencies, etc.), the Saints can’t keep everyone.  The team may, however, be able to get a first round pick or equivalent compensation for Lattimore, which will help usher in the next era while also providing important cap relief and a cost controlled player for four plus years.  Under this proposed plan, the Saints trade Lattimore away for a first round pick and save $10.244 million off their 2021 cap in the process.

Good article on how NO can navigate out of their cap he’ll.

They won't get a 1st because of the monster contract a team will need to pay him. Too many examples out there that show it's too much capital. Now if Sean Payton thinks he can resurrect Sam Darnold? Throw him in.

Feel free to merge this in the Meyers Contract post.

JFM has popped on Film for awhile now and our players are finally in a system that allow them to play up to their potential. Many of you guys in this thread saw this last year too.

Don't have time to post much But man did we find ourselves a STUD GM. Douglas is nailing the big moves like hiring Saleh, trades and bringing in the right system for his players and he is doing all the small moves killing it with late draft picks and waiver wire guys like JFM. Young Stud pass rusher for free? Unbelievable.

Now Wilson is injured and its going to be two top 10-15 draft picks on an up and coming team dripping with upside. All I gotta say is sit back and enjoy this ride. This is going to be the team they want on Hard Knocks and everyone is talking about all offseason. As Jet Fans we deserve this after years of Idzik and Mac.

Be back to bump the "Prince that was promised" once Quinnen is named to the Pro Bowl and is regarded as the best young DT in the NFL. Just love how this team is being built.
