A reference to a highschool dance (circa 1233 AD) and a fat girl at said dance... I'd put you in your 50s.

Greeny- is that you?  What nonsensical self hating Jets fan drivel.  The Jets will have a young QB, a boat load of early draft picks in 2021-22 and $100 million in free agency money, nowhere to go but up and a 2 year honeymoon period for a new coach.   Texans have no draft picks and no money, Jacksonville is in the same position as the Jets , the Falcons have no money and their best players are on the downside of their careers.....

There’s only 32 head coaching jobs in the NFL.  Jacksonville is a sh*t hole, chargers have no fans, falcons have the 96 year old Matt Ryan locked into a 35M contract for the next few years, Houston has no draft picks and the star of the team (watt) sounds like he wants out... the jets are an attractive place, believe it or not.

Yup, and it's the worst its ever been, we've never been positioned this badly to attract a decent HC:

  • Worst roster in the NFL.
  • Bust franchise QB a looming decision.
  • GM who just gutted the team and threw his HC under the bus.
  • No skill players.
  • No OL.
  • No secondary.
  • Expansion-caliber talent aplenty.
  • 28 players on expiring 1-year contracts.
  • Likely forced into taking QB2 in a 1 QB class.
  • Vicious NY media making Jets a clickbait industry.
  • Impatient plane-flying fanbase unwilling to support rebuild.

And to top it all off?  An unclear ownership situation, candidates being interviewed and hired by Christopher with Woody in the wings potentially coming back in 2021 or 2022.  This situation is so bad Bill Belichick wouldn't have even had time to scribble on a napkin before bolting out the door.

Falcons QB will be 36 next year, Jones will be 32, coming off injury and the Falcons as of now are projected to be $24MM over teh cap.  And with an aging QB, there will be pressure to win now.

Chargers are in Division likely to be dominated by Chiefs for foreseeable future.

Texans are expected to be $17M over the cap and have traded away draft capital.

Jacksonville owner just released a statment today that he is expected to retain roster control despite hiring new GM.  Not exaclty a great situation despite Lawrence,

Jets will have #2 pick in draft, $80MM cap space and additional draft capital over next two years to build a team with less pressure to win now than in some of the other spots.  There are challenges in every spot, which is why coaches positions opened up.

Let's play this out.

Jaguars' owner just said he will retain roster control which should put a big chill on any GM hire and probably have impact on how attractive it is for a new HC.  We'll see how that plays out.

Falcons are $37M over the cap for next year.  They will be gutted if the cap actually goes down.

Texans are $16M over the cap for next year and have just about no talent on the roster beyond Watson, Watt (who may be leaving) and Tunsil.  That is almost certainly the worst situation in the NFL to walk into.

Chargers are a nice situation.  The only real bummer there is being in KC's division.  But they have players, cap room and good weather.

And don't forget lockdowns and wildfires.  CA is a great place to live.

Fun fact about Ryan.

He is far ahead of Brady in terms of Yards/Season.  Ryan has played 13 seasons to Brady's 21 and shows no signs of slowing down.  He averages over 500 yards/season more than Brady (4,290 vs. 3,771).  If he keeps up his pace for another 5-6 years, he will pass Brady on the all-time career yards list.

Of course none of that will matter if Mahomes plays another decade.  He is averaging 400 yards/season more than Ryan.  And his TD/season average is over 10 higher than either Ryan or Brady.  All these guys, Brady, Brees, Ryan, will just be keeping the seats warm.

Jets with Fields, Mims, Crowder, Becton, another first round pick that I would bet will be Wyatt Davis to go along with Fields, Q, Fatukasi, Franklin, and you might even be able to throw Mosley into it.

Not so bad really.

If not for Joe Douglas, I’d have as much faith in this coaching search as I did last time with Mac and Johnson...NONE.

I have a very good feeling though that Douglas will hire a good coach here...finally. There is a lot of appeal for the next coach:

  • You have Douglas, who is well respected player eval GM picking your players
  • Boat load of picks and cap space
  • Chance to draft your own QB at #2, or even possibly trade down and get one the next year, if that coach has faith in Sam at a minimum.
  • Ownership that does not knee jerk react and fire coaches. Look at how much rope Gase and Bowles had. At the very least, you’re going to have time to figure it out once you get hired.

Houston’s job is good and bad. 1. They need a GM+HC pairing. So a coach who wants to pick a GM is going to like that job. But they have no draft picks to surround Watson’s with.

Jag’s owner just came out and said HE will have control of the roster and will let the next GM know that. Lol, that’s going to turn off a lot of GM’s which in turn will turn off a lot of coaches. I think its Urban Meyer there if he can have the owner agree to a good deal of roster control, with a gm finance guy signing the contracts.

Chargers on paper looks GREAT! Stud young QB with a loaded roaster. No outstanding draft or cap space issues. However, their ownership is known for being cheap, which could factor into a bidding war.

All in all I think we are the top 3 or 4 job opportunities, and probably the most likely landing spot with someone like Campbell or Fitz (IF they truly want to make the jump to the league). JD is an grinder personnel man through and through who values the college game and process. They are much more likely to pair with him, than some of these other GM’s will be basically be picked by a Daboll, Bienemy, Salah...

There's no salary cap on HC's.  I believe Head coaches work for pay.

It's what I've been screaming about for a year.  Gase was the perfect guy for the rebuild, and we're at the lowest point, this is as bad as its going to get with 28 players on expired one-year deals, all the impact players Douglas has gotten rid of, and only a scant few new players brought in and showing something.

Gase was a great punching bag, tailor-made for New York and this abyss.  Now the pressure is all on Douglas, the guy we wanted to be the nerdy, patient, smart rebuilder.  Now Douglas is in win-now mode.  If we go 2-14 again next year, Douglas will be gone.  So here comes 2015 with get-rich-quick free agents and a journeyman quarterback to hurt our 2022 draft position.  And the circle of life goes on and on and on...
