Matt Eberflus declined an interview with the Texans

Recommended Posts

What an absolute sh*tshow in Houston..the Houston Jets

"Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus is in high demand for potential head coaching jobs and while the Houston Texans had their eye on him as a candidate, it seems he has declined the interview.

There doesn’t appear to be an exact reason why but anyone paying attention can get an idea. Things don’t look great in Houston given the recent drama surrounding the hiring of new general manager Nick Caserio.

Whether that was the reason or something else, Eberflus declined to interview with the Texans, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Going in the division would have been a tough sell for Eberflus anyway but with how things are unfolding in Houston, it’s pretty clear that won’t likely be the destination if Eberflus does take a head coaching job.

Part of the report from Pelissero also says that Eberflus will be interviewing with the New York Jets on Sunday and the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday following the Colts’ wild-card weekend matchup with the Buffalo Bills.

It remains to be seen if he will wind up with a head coaching job, but we know it’s most likely not going to be with the Texans."

...

"Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus has turned down the Texans’ request to come in for an interview for their head coaching vacancy.

The Texans initially sought permission to interview Eberflus before hiring General Manager Nick Caserio, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Although no reason has been given for why Eberflus turned the Texans down, it raises the question of whether he’s leery of the issues going on in Houston, where many people around the league have concerns about the direction the franchise has gone in since Jack Easterby, the team’s executive vice president of football operations, got owner Cal McNair’s ear. The hiring of Caserio, who has long been close to Easterby, strongly suggests that Easterby is calling the shots. And Eberflus may not be interested in coaching for a team run by Easterby.

Also concerning about the Texans is the possibility that Deshaun Watson, the franchise quarterback who is by far the team’s most valuable asset, is unhappy in Houston.

Eberflus is still scheduled to interview with the Jets and Chargers, so he wants a head-coaching job. Just not the Texans job."

best part about this is finding out he will be interviewing sunday.  Trying to get a timeline of these interviews has been challenging so far.

Which could be a good thing instead of the leaking faucet of info the Jets organization was under Macagnan.

Honestly sounds like a fan's worst nightmare, after finally finding your franchise QB. Sheesh Houston

Don't forget to mention they have one of the worst cap situations in the NFL. And they have an evil preacher controlling the team.

Hmm tells a lot about what type of plans our coaching candidates potentially presented to Joe Douglas and Co.

Watson is a franchise QB so that alone should attract coaches but the uncertainty at that position is turning them away.

Makes me think the new coaching candidates are coming in with plans to build around a rookie because Darnold and any draft pick isn’t as attractive as Watson and what ever moves Houston can make to improve this offseason imo.

could be wrong though

They have a lot of issues.

They just went 4-12 with Watson balling out.

They are 15 M over the cap.

They have no 1st or 2nd round picks. Imagine being 4-12 and not having your top two draft picks? Yikes

So, I think a coach who is going there might be worried that there is no easy way to turn things around quickly.

Texans needs to have a public make-up with Watson stat.

So I was thinking about this.

I'm not saying I would necessarily do it, but you can make an argument that IF Watson is truly peeved to the point that he actually wants out, they should trade him for a haul of picks and be done with it.

If it's gotten to that point. It just so rarely happens. QBs rarely even hold out, good ones even less. They are too important and franchises usually bend the knee to keep them happy. Probably will smooth over, but the timing is unfortunate for them in the middle of a HC search.

I think that’s the only way they can rebuild that team, they have 0 draft picks! They gotta do a full reset

I’m still trying to figure out how they traded DeAndre Hopkins, went 4-12, and they’re first pick in this upcoming draft isn’t until pick #67. How’s that even possible lol

And their QB put up elite numbers, it's truly mind boggling... like wtf
