Sowell is BRILLIANT and insightful on the shadows of American culture.... what’s hidden behind the talking points of the powerful.

Suppress those who disagree, especially if they could have incredible influence on the narrative & convince those being duped that they are fools of the “system”.

The more chaotic the path to the draft is, the more risks and unknowns there will be.

The teams with the best front offices will benefit because they will make fewer mistakes that others.  We see this already in a very well define draft process.  It will be even more so in 2021.

There is a good possibility that JD and Jets will be one of the better drafting teams.  But one year, 2020, is not a great sample to make that judgement.

When the Jets traded Jamal Adams everyone said it was a haul

Yes in normal years its a haul

In a year where thousands of players did not have a chance to play and the combine is canceled, that pick is less valuable due to imperfect information

Is Jamal perfect or even good? It depends who you ask. But we know what he is more or less

These guys are going to be drafting out of magazines.

Exactly.  And just as good athletes have a lot of luck, good GM's will come up with some great mid-round picks while others will choose lemons.

Also, signing UFA's will be critical.  Need to sell some guys on the "opportunity" they have with the Jets.

That might be better for us.

Based on the Jets draft history I say yes, it is about time.

I live and work right here in Indianapolis and I'm telling you this could easily be done.

The hotels downtown are ghost towns right now, the NFL already sequesters the JW Marriott and the Crown Plaza during the combine to keep fans away from where the players and coaches stay. Both those hotels are within 2 blocks of Lucas Oil Stadium AND connected by walkways.

The NFL also already staggers the arrival and departure dates for positional groups to keep it efficient.

The only thing they would need to do is keep people from going out to party, and they cant do that anyways because half of everything is temporarily closed, out of business, or whatnot.

Think the issue is all the kids and team officials that need to be put at risk to travel.  Not what precautions can be put in place in Indy

It's in danger because it cannot be televised the way it has in recent years, and that is what matters to the NFL.

Of course they COULD still do it, hell just have one guy in the building at a time, then clean, then next guy comes in.  Would take extra time, but would work.

But no TV revenue doing it that way.

Doubt the NFL and ESPN makes much off of the combine.  I’m a football freak and don’t watch much more than QBs, WRs and maybe some RB broadcasts.  I’d bet that’s a lot compared to most football fans.

NFL will have no in-person Scouting Combine workouts

The COVID-19 pandemic has effectively canceled the 2021 NFL Scouting Combine.

Although the league isn’t using the word “canceled,” a memo sent to teams today says, “There will be no in-person workouts,” and that instead players will be worked out at their individual pro days on campuses.

The league is working with college programs to ensure consistency in Combine workouts so that teams have accurate data about players’ athletic ability.

The league is developing a plan to obtain comprehensive medical information about all the prospects who would ordinarily be invited to Indianapolis for the Combine. That will include testing done at medical facilities near the prospects’ homes, with a few prospects getting in-person follow-up examinations, likely in April. Teams’ interviews of prospects will be done virtually, rather than in person.

Although the annual trip to Indianapolis has become an important part of the NFL offseason, it just wasn’t feasible this year, and so the Combine will not go on.
