I wouldn't jump to that conclusion. I haven't heard anything about what Saleh feels about it. Kyle Shanahan really likes him, but doesn't mean Saleh does

I am more concerned about Sam Darnold being the QB next year than the HC at this point tbh...

I've already shared it, a lot of fans on here are just in denial because they can't handle not getting their way.

People in the FO think there's a strong chance he comes back. 60/40 is the number I was given. A lot will ride on the coach, his trade market, and the trade market of the #2 pick. Many in the NFL believe he's an ultra talented QB who will find a way to be a solid NFL starter.

Gonna make this short and sweet.

Coaches don’t give a flying f*ck about stats when they evaluate players in situations like Sam’s.  They look at what is fixable, what is moldable, how “fixable” do they believe the player is, and things of that nature.  The consensus around the league is that Sam Darnold is a very salvageable player.  Whether or not us as fans agree with that means absolutely nothing to people who do this for a living.

Maybe they should pay me to do that for a living

The initial plan was to revisit with 3-4 finalists, but I'm not sure how dedicated they were to that. I think the the Eagles firing Pederson changed things. On one hand, a coach whom Douglas has a strong relationship with joins the pool of candidates. On the other hand, there's another team in the mix who can pouch one of your top candidates.

If Saleh is the top candidate, they will wrap it up after this morning's meeting.

I hope they get joe brady in the building

I'm 100% certain that a Shanahan offense would be best for Darnold. It's extremely complex - which is why they usually want veterans to run it - but most of that is pre-snap. If a QB masters the offense (just as the skill position players), there's very little decision-making that goes on intra-play. Gase's is similar but different; he designs an offense that will get someone open based on how the defense defends a given play, whereas the Shanahan offense is designed to attack the defenses weakness before the play even begins. Darnold already knows the playbook (via Bates and some of Gase), so the learning curve is much less for him than it is a rookie... coupled with that scheme being best fit for his skill set and I don't think it's so far reaching to see the correlation.

I don't know about Saleh. I know Smith and Staley really like Darnold. I know Shanahan really likes Darnold (and I'm assuming his disciples). I have heard that Bieniemy is the type who wants to start fresh at QB for every job except Houston, giving teams the vibe that he doesn't want to do the dirty work. I think Pederson may want to control the QB position totally if nothing else, but does not necessarily mean he wouldn't want Darnold.

As far as Joe Brady, I think he's in the next wave of candidates. However, he does not represent what the Jets intend on hiring in a head coach. They don't care about a specialist as much as they do a "leader of men"... it's not to say Joe Brady can't be that, but at this moment he hasn't displayed that skill set. People want to compare him to McVay but he's not as charismatic, not as experienced. I'd be really shocked if they hired him.

Damn why would you break my heart like that, my Wilson - Brady dream is becoming more and more like a dream.

The thing to me is why would they commit so early to Sam? What has he done to deserve that? I'm sure by the time the Jets can interview and workout the draft prospects things will change...
