So we’re good with a sh1t offense?

QB1

QB1 has a legit concern in this regard and not because the new coach will lobby for a bunch of defensive players (like rex would have and did) but because a GM might be influenced by the history of the new head coach and feel he has to evenly build the team at the very least.  Even if the offense needs the resources far more in an offensive league.

Bold call: Jets offense will be higher ranked than defense next year if we move on from Darnold, of course.

The same GM that used his first 2 draft picks on a LT and a WR?  That one?

Yeah, this is a silly concern.  Douglas was here first and is in charge of hiring the HC.  For the first time, we can be reasonably confident that this is a situation where the GM picks the players he wants and the coach coaches them.  Saleh will be able to provide input on his vision but ultimately it will be Douglas' picks.

Saleh is a former Tight End and watched his elite defense in SF get betrayed by a poor Jimmy Garoppolo-led offense.  I imagine he'll be on board with adding offensive talent.

And?  So Saleh is going to come in here as the new guy and demand Douglas to draft defense and he's going to do it?  Does Douglas strike you as a guy who lets someone else tell him what to do?  He's not inept like our past GM's, who let coaches put their fingerprints all over the drafts.

HOLY SHEEEEEITTTE!

SOJ attitude has finally reached its pinnacle.

Before the guy is even hired, we are bitching about how bad the offense will be, which in turn will call for the guy to be fired....BEFORE HE HAS EVEN BEEN HIRED!

I know, right. The guy played 4 years of college football and started as an offensive player. But oh my he knows nothing about offense lol.

Wait until Chris Johnson announces that they're carefully reviewed their reporting structure, listened to a lot of feedback and have decided to make a change for the good of the organization going forward. The GM will now report to the HC.

I don't care who the coach is. Just make sure that DeVonta Smith is drafted at #2 and Etienne is drafted with Seattle's pick.

Then I will be happy

I would be fine with Smith.  But at 23 you need to get a OL like Davis if he is still there

If he brings in a very good OC what’s the issue?

also it’s still only a rumor at this point. Nothing is official yet.

The issue isn't with what coaches he brings in it's about allocation of resources.

The OP is right.  This team will not focus it's primary resources on defense and try and recreate the 49ers from two years ago.

Which is the Rex Ryan teams from a decade ago.

If you do EVERYTHING right - you make a run, come up short - and two years later are picking the top 5 again.

Defense simply doesn't matter anymore.  The teams that figured that out are going deep into the playoffs every year.  I had hoped JD understand, so far it's pretty clear he doesn't.

Pure nonsense, you dont believe this.

How did Shula develop Marino, Belichick develop Brady, Cowher Rothlesberger, Carroll Wilson.....

The same GM that signed a bunch of back-up Olineman to protect his struggling 3rd year QB.  Who kept a 38 year old RB?

He needs to be more than on board with adding offensive talent.  He needs to understand that offensive talent is pretty much the only thing that matters.

Pure nonsense.

What you should look for in a head coach is a great inspiration leader who motivates ALL, the players, the assistant coaches and the training staff.   He also must have expertise regarding both sides of the ball.  This BS of a HC delegating all decisions to a coordinator doesn't float - no dotted lines!  Lastly he must hire the great coordinators and great assistants who know how to develop talent - again the HC must oversee everyone and make sure everyone is doing their job.

I gave him a list of HCs from the defense side of the ball who had top offenses, developed QBs and he gave a confused face to the post

He is a one track, Jets will make the wrong choice, meaning anyone he cant understand why they could be a good HC.

Youre hiring a HC and who he will bring in as a staff, how they will work under him.  Not just a OC who had a good offense.
