If Saleh becomes head coach, which 49ers free agents should the Jets target?

If Robert Saleh is hired as the Jets head coach, which 49ers free agents should the Jets target, if any?

CB Jason Verrett - Coming off a great season but also turns 30 by the start of next season

DE Kerry Hyder - Another player coming off a great season (8.5 sacks, 49 tackles, 10 TFL, 1 fumble recovery).  Hyder will be turning 30 before next season.

FB Kyle Juszczyk - Probably won't hit the free agent market but if the Jets plan on running the Shanahan offense, FB is an important position.  Coming off of his 5th straight pro bowl, also turning 30.

Younger 49er free agents with limited playing time (depth additions)

CB Ahkello Witherspoon - purely a depth guy, which the Jets already have but was a player that got a lot of draft buzz on this site a few years back

LB Azeez Al-Shaair - behind Warner, hence the limited playing time but played well when given the opportunity.

These players could add veteran leadership and help with implementing the offense or defense.  Verrett, Hyder and Juszczyk may be expensive but they could be 1-2 year starters until the Jets can find a long term solution.  Having a guy like Verrett would allow the Jets to draft a guy similar to what they did with Blessuan Austin.  A late round guy that may need a year or two to develop, coming off of an injury or sat out the year.  Like Oregon's Deommodore Lenoir, Cal's Camryn Bynum, or NC Central's Bryan Mills.  Hyder helps to address the pass rushing need that the Jets have been lacking, though he has been sporadic in his production, he has managed to produce two 8+ sack seasons in his career.

This is a great thread. I am not sure the answer but this will apply on both sides of the ball. You want a few guys that know the system.

It will be nice that system experts moving forward won't be named Dowell Loggains and Frank Gore.

None. Saleh shouldn't be running his D anyway. He needs to bring in a DC and an OC to run their onw systems.

CJ Beathard.  Immediately becomes the backup, spent 3 years in the Shanahan system and is capable of starting.

You want the head coach to come in and delegate so much that the coordinators aren't running his system? At that point the coah is meaningless and once somebody hires your coordinator you are back to step 1.

It's in Jets fans' blood to wildly over-correct from the last failure. Gase micro-managed? I want a HC who sleeps in his office during practice!

Saleh's pick for DC has not been talked about much compared to his possible OC candidates.  But I suspect he may bring in someone he is familiar with and knows his defensive mindset.  DeMeco Ryans, the 49ers linebacker coach and candidate to replace Saleh as DC in San Francisco, is one that would make sense.

Dre Greenlaw talking about Ryans:

“It’s a blessing and a curse. He knows everything that’s going on the field, like the back of his hand,” Greenlaw said. “He and Saleh are the leaders of the defense. By having played in that defense before, he knows what to expect and he does a good job explaining what he wants out of you.

Everybody loves DeMeco because he’s going to coach you hard. Sometimes you may not like it, but he’ll motivate you and also tell you if you’re doing good.”

The Ravens don't run Harbaugh's system. The Steeler don't run Tomlin's system.

I want a HC, not a glorified coordinator.

Regardless if Saleh becomes a HC and does not turn the D completely over to his DC, I believe he will fail.
