Popular Post BettyBoop
We’ve all been down this road before. Old coach out/new coach in. Not sure which one of those actually made us happier. Let’s face it, with the exception of Gaze all of the new head coaches in the past had us all giddy at their introduction presser. Bowles looked like the no-nonsense polar opposite of Rex. Rex brought life into the program after Mangini, who appeared to be on his own little island for two years. Mangini was going to turn us into the Patriots after Herm lost his appeal. And then there was Gaze. Let’s admit it, we all looked at that introduction press conference and were wondering what the hell was happening. So why is this hiring different from all other hirings. It’s because all of the previous coaches were selected by the gut of the Johnson brothers. While there were a few folks whispering in their ear(s), the final decision was what Fredo and Woody thought was best. They were borne out of Fredo or Woody’s “vision” of the team. And once the decision was made, the ear whisperers were like cockroaches when the light turned on. Nowhere to be found. The vision was left to Fredo to carry out. As a result, 2-14 and a laughing stock. This time we have a football guy making the call. A seasoned NFLer who indeed has a plausible plan and will be here to see it through. Thanks for your help Fredo, now you can go back to sea and leave the rest to the guy.

nycdan
Because on all other hirings (or the last two at least) we picked emotionless clowns who were completely unprepared to manage a team, the players, and adapt to adversity but on this hiring, we hired someone who has shown evidence that he can do all of them. And I think Douglas was reclining when he hired Saleh but that's unconfirmed. 2 1

Popular Post slats
I feel good about it because, like the Joe Douglas hire, the Jets seem to’ve landed their very first choice rather than executing plan K. That alone is reason for optimism. 8

Popular Post Scott Dierking
We all want to feel positive about a hire. It is one of the best parts of being a fan. That said, I have no idea how this hire is going to turn out. There are so many other forces at work (whether JD is in fact great or not, the unpredictability of draft picks, how much meddling the owners decide to impart, whether someone tries to shortcut a rebuild and make sexy moves that only cost money without the return). The last 2 hires (JD and Saleh) both feel, like you said, that they come from a football mentality perspective. They both tend to separate some of the "specialist" qualities that this team has seemed to trend toward in the recent past, and puts the emphasis on true football leadership men. Typically, that is how good organizations are built. But so many things can get in the way. Building is going to require patience, a plan, and consistent tinkering to the plan with the ability to change course if needed. I can't remember the last times that the Jets truly did that, with maybe the exception of the Michaels era. The Ryan era had some of that, but it had its buffoonery moments along with the colossal, idiotic Tebow move that doomed it. These moves seem to check a lot of boxes. Now comes the execution.

Philc1
It’s different from our last 2 signings because 1) Saleh is competent and 2) Players will actually want to play for him

heymangold
The only coaching hire I remember getting excited for was Rex. Mangini, Bowles, Herm, Gase - less than inspiring.
Beerfish
Well it is different from our last coach because this guy is a legit candidate, unlike the last guy who was a fraud before he was hired, some of us knew we were doomed with gase. does Saleh pan out? We do not know

Did you hear that about Gase or Bowles?. I do not recall it. Plus JD doing the hiring as opposed to Casselry(Mac) and CJ(Gase) is much different. BigRy56
I think that Saleh has a much stronger reputation than Bowles and Gase, maybe even combined. This is a universally praised move and that never happens in a Jets coaching hire 2
jgb
Woody has always tended to over-correct with HC hires. Seems like the key qualification in each was being the polar opposite personality-wise of the guy who came/failed before. This seems like a very sober, careful selection. 1

slimjasi
One reason I like the hiring a lot is that we are going from a limited personality Gase to a rah rah Peter Carroll type. Combine that with the easier schedule next year and you will see a natural "players coach bounce" that is common in year 1 of a new regime. So I think this regime will get off to a good start and that has the opportunity to build momentum for the future.

FidelioJet
It’s not any different. Flavor of the Month coordinator - that’s looks and feels the opposite of the last one we hired. Same thing....Gotta give the coaches good players. That’s what’s going to matter..
SAR I
The Jets make history by hiring the first Muslim head coach ever in the NFL at the very moment Manish Mehta isn't allowed to cover him. SAR I 1

None of it matters unless they fix the roster in general, the QB spot in particular. Whether or not that means replacing Darnold or bringing in someone to make him a usable part - I don't care. Just fix QB1.
