Watson chews up a lot of cap room.  For a dude that rolled the dice twice and traded DOWN into Mims, Watson doesn't seem like a JD move.  More like a Tannebaum move IMO...

I don’t think so. Watson is entering the prime of his career unlike Farve who was in the twilight. Watson is one of those guys I would break the bank for

Last time I checked our starting QB was ranked at the bottom of all NFL statistics.

We finished the season 2-14

To win in the NFL you need a decent QB.

With matt ryan atlanta won 4 games

with deshaun watson houston won 4 games

with herbert the chargers won 7 games

Cousins and stafford both decent QBs losing records.

If watson came to the jets and we had to give up rebuilding draft picks the jets would win.....4 games

So you don’t think they take a QB with 2 or 3? Because if you do.. why are they trading for either Darnold or tua?

Good question. Not sure. Tua would make more sense if they’re high on him. Still essentially a rookie on a cheap deal and they could use that #2 to get a LT. it would all depend on how they rank Tua, Fields, Wilson.

They have Tunsil.  Why would they take a LT?

Disagree and we cant build a winning team without a decent QB.

I hope JD is smart.  Because this could be a VERY risky all or nothing idea.

When have the Jets traded a bunch of picks for a pro bowl QB in his prime?

Really doubt Watson is going anywhere.  Texans will do something with the HC or asst hire to keep him happy.  if he just really wants out because the Texans suck, can't see him coming to the Jets.

Watson’s discontent is directed at Houston’s leadership, namely owner Cal McNair and VP of football operations Jack Easterby. McNair promised to include the three-time Pro Bowler in the process of filling the head coach and general manager vacancies left after Bill O’Brien was fired four games into the 2020 season.

So no one has said he wants out because the team sucks.  Its been the same story from day 1.

The success the jets have had in the rex era was due to a great team not mark sanchez.

You need a QB for sustained success but also you can have a QB and if your teams sucks you have no success.

Once again with watson playing at a high level they won a whopping 4 games.

The jets as they are, are no better than houston talent wise.

Yeah but at least we’ll witness touchdowns being thrown! Haven’t seen those since 2009.

Jetsy =/= Exactly to the letter what the Jets did in 19XX

So you a supporter of trading 3-4x #1 picks for Watson?

The Texans organization was the next biggest mess in the NFL next to the NY Jets.

They traded their #1 WR

The replacement Fuller was suspended soon after.

Did I mention coaching issues with next biggest loser BO next to AG.

If a deal is possible then JD and others will have to look at the cost vs what they believe they will lose in players they could have added to the team with Darnold or Wilson/Fields.

Deshaun Watson’s Texans departure now seems inevitable

January 17, 2021 | 2:32pm | Updated

The end of Deshaun Watson’s Texans tenure seems like just a matter of time.

“There is a growing sense from people in and around the Texans’ organization that Deshaun Watson has played his last snap for the team,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted on Sunday. “It’s early in the off-season, there’s a lot of time left, but Watson’s feelings cannot and should not be underestimated.”

A separation seems inevitable at this point amid a rash of news about Watson’s frustration with the Texans, cryptic smoke signals over social media and trade rumors.

However, despite the deteriorating relationship with the organization, Pro Football Talk reported on Sunday that the disgruntled quarterback hasn’t formally requested a trade quite yet.

“I was on a 2 then I took it to 10,” Watson tweeted Friday, nearly identical to an ESPN report from last weekend which said Watson’s anger level was a “2” when the team traded DeAndre Hopkins last year before surging this offseason.

Watson — who is under contract through 2025 — was reportedly not consulted about the hiring of new general manager Nick Caserio. The 25-year-old requested that the front office interview Robert Saleh — the former 49ers defensive coordinator and new Jets head coach — which was unheeded. He also made a push for Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, who has received high praise from Patrick Mahomes.

The Texans dragged their feet in requesting an interview with Bieniemy and will have to wait until after Kansas City is eliminated from the playoffs or after the Super Bowl due to anti-tampering league rules.

In a lengthy Sports Illustrated story about the Texans’ chaos under Easterby, a person close to Watson said of the quarterback, “He just wants out.”

After a highly successful college career, the Clemson Tiger joined the Texans in 2017 as the No. 12 overall pick in the draft. He has completed 67.8 percent of his passes for 14,539 yards, 104 touchdowns, 36 interceptions and has accrued 1,677 rushing yards and 17 rushing touchdowns in his first four NFL seasons. The Texans are 29-35 in the regular season and have advanced to the playoffs twice since Watson joined the team, but finished with a disappointing 4-12 record this season.

Another pain point for Watson is the dearth of a “winning culture” in the organization — akin to his time at Clemson, whom he led to a CFP National Championship win in 2016.

“We just need a whole culture shift,” Watson said after the season when asked about the head coaching search. “We need a leader so we can follow that leader … too many different ideas and too many people thinking that they have this power, and it’s not like that.”

Watson signed a four-year, $156 million contract in September which carries a $15.94 million cap hit and $67.14 million dead cap hit in 2021 according to Spotrac.

Meanwhile, Watson appeared to be in New York City on Sunday, according to posts on his Instagram stories, after vacationing with his girlfriend.

*Thanks for the Intro to Computers tutorial Max.

Aside from the Texans needing to eat almost $70mill of dead cap space, dome qbs are fools gold.

When was the last time the NY Jets had a franchise QB.

I am starting to agree with this. When we had a chance to draft Watson, we didn’t. We are not that good at drafting, or so it appears.(Year after Year after freakin Year)

We now think we have a coach, we have money, we have a few pieces on offense and defense(Very few), and if there is a chance to secure an absolute young, game changing, fully healthy, extremely hungry, QB.....I can get behind that. Even if I have to pay a premium.

We all know where he's going unfortunately.

The #3 + Tua is much better than the #2 + Darnold.  Sure, the Jets could throw in the #23 or 34, but Miami can throw in the #18 or do some pick swaps.

Darnold is better than Tus.

I agree with your premise that we are not just a QB away. However, if you can assure yourself a decade of superior QB play, YOU HAVE TO DO IT. It’s the most important position and without it, you got nothing.

Do you want a winning team as well or just a good qb?

I want a team that can consistently compete for a title every year, and in this modern NFL era that heavily favors offense, you need a QB to do that, which is also the hardest piece to find. Deshaun Watson would unequivocally be that piece.

I'm not saying the price won't sting, but I think it'd be worth it to land the most talented QB this team has ever seen since Favre -- and possibly longer -- in his prime.

Where in the world is it written that its one over the other.

Drafting a FQB involves a whole lot of luck.  Just because you need one theres no guarantee they'll be one that ultimately becomes one where youre drafting.

It easier to put a team around a FQB than the other way around.  Pats, Chiefs, etc all are/were SB contenders because they got their FQB.  The Jets and others who just fall short always are the teams that have talent but dont have the QB that separates them

I do understand what you are saying, I do.

But have you been watching the games this weekend? When Mahomes left the game, they looked similar to Jets. Henne threw a perfect spiral to the wrong team.

Last night as I was watching Buffalo I let my mind wander and pictured what what Darnold do as their QB if he was there and Allen was here. They would look like the Jets.

I would love to see Watson in Green.

I posted what an off season with Watsons contract could look like in the draft forum if anyone's interested. This team could be competitive next year
