This should be it with the #2 pick: Watson, Sewell or trading down

Sure you can. Several teams have proven you can. Packers with Rodgers and the Seahawks with Wilson, to name 2.

And it’s simply the reality of the NFL as it’s constructed that you simultaneously must have a QB to compete for titles and also have to pay them astronomically a few years after finding one in the draft. If it’s not Watson we acquire, the Jets will eventually need to find a QB worth paying like Watson is.

??

The Pack drafted Rodgers, and the Seahawks drafted Wilson...sure, their teams paid them big bucks, but did not have to trade away their 1st and 2nd rd picks for the next 2-3 yrs to obtain the high-priced QB.

I don't think many people have much of an issue paying Watson his $40 mill/yr....but more with having to trade multiple high DP's for the privilege of doing so.

Even after trading for Watson and his contract, Jets would have roughly a normal draft slate — some of which would be need to be expended anyway on a QB either this draft, or next — and the #5 or #6 most cap space in the league. This is not an either/or proposition.

So....you think you're getting Watson for only the #2 and #23 this year?  I'm in if that's the case.

But it ain't likely so.

two words: Carmelo Anthony

Because he never carried a team to a championship as an under 25 year old QB he’s Melo, who’s been around for like 15 years? This comparison is awful. He’s been to the playoffs twice with a win under his belt already. It’s not his fault Houston hired the Patriots team chaplain to run football ops and blow the team up. Just a bad comparison all around

More like the Carmelo Anthony trade to the Knicks.

Why not compare him to Dan Marino? How many SBs did he win? Awful comparison.

Again, sorry I wasn't clear. This was about not giving up too much in trade because, ultimately, you won't have enough team around Watson, just like Anthony and the Knicks.
