It seems very much so a meritocracy which is far and away from how the organization has been run over the years. We were letting people bring in their friends, family, old players that "fit the system" - it was embarrassing and as a fan who tries to spin it in a positive way it was tough when you had Greg Williams bring his son or Gase bring Gore and play him over the much faster and all around better younger backs just for example. Douglas earned the right to choose the HC, he chose a HC who earned the spot - someone he didn't even know or have ties too. Saleh is bringing in guys from multiple teams and although I'm sure he knows them it seems very much so deliberate and calculated. We're getting a little bit of respect for once from players and media heads alike. Which isn't important but lets face it, doesn't hurt especially when we just spent the last decade basically being the butt of everyones jokes and on the wrong side of twitter haha. 8 1 2 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

A native of Islip Terrace, New York, Calabrese played quarterback at East Islip High School, where he broke the school records for career passing yards and touchdowns, set by former NFL MVP and Calabrese's mentor Boomer Esiason. Calabrese played college football at UCF from 2008 to 2012. As a true freshman, he led the team in passing yards, completions, and passing attempts. After starting the first two games in 2009 as a sophomore, he was benched for Brett Hodges and spent the remainder of the season as a reserve quarterback. Quote Greg Knapp is entering his third season as the Falcons' quarterbacks coach and his sixth year with the franchise while bringing 34 seasons of coaching experience – 25 years in the NFL. Under Knapp's tutelage in 2019, QB Matt Ryan totaled 4,466 yards, including 11 300-yard games, a new franchise record and tied for the third-most games in a single season in NFL history. Knapp has coached six individual 4,000-yard passers in 24 years in the NFL. In 2018, Knapp helped Ryan finished the season with 4,924 passing yards and 35 passing touchdowns, both were Ryan's second-best single-season marks in his 12-year career. Under Knapp's guidance, Ryan completed 69.4-percent of his passes, which was the fourth-highest completion percentage in 2018. Ryan protected the ball extremely well, setting a personal best low of 2.1 interception percentage in Knapp's first year as quarterbacks coach. Knapp was most recently with the Denver Broncos where he spent he spent four seasons (2013-16). He was hired as the Broncos quarterbacks coach in 2013, but was then promoted to passing game coordinator in 2014. Under Knapp's tutelage, future Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning threw for a career-high 5,477 yards and 55 touchdowns – both are NFL records. Knapp, whose quarterbacks have combined to play in 11 Pro Bowls, has coached an unprecedented six individual 4,000-yard passers as a coordinator or position coach: Steve Young (1998), Jeff Garcia (2000), Matt Schaub (2010), Carson Palmer (2012), Peyton Manning (2013-14) and Matt Ryan (2018). In addition to his work with established NFL signal-callers, he has helped young passers like Garcia, Schaub, T.J. Yates, Brock Osweiler, and Trevor Siemian. Knapp got his first crack in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers in 1995. He crossed paths with Head Coach Dan Quinn in San Francisco in 2001-03, when Quinn was getting his first job in the NFL and Knapp had worked his way up to becoming the offensive coordinator for the Niners. During his time as offensive coordinator, he helped develop Garcia, who made it to three Pro Bowls in 2000-02 under Knapp's leadership. He also coached Hall of Fame quarterback Young and prolific wide receiver Terrell Owens, who made it to three Pro Bowls when he was the offensive coordinator. Owens posted the highest three-year receiving yardage total of his career (3,814) while combining for 290 receptions and 39 total touchdowns for the 49ers in Knapp's offense. The California native then moved on to Atlanta where he was the offensive coordinator from 2004-06. During his time here in the mid-2000s, Knapp coached three Pro Bowlers: TE Alge Crumpler, RB Warrick Dunn, and QB Michael Vick. Atlanta boasted the NFL's top-ranked rushing unit in all three years with Knapp overseeing the offense, including a team-record 183.7 yards per game on the ground during the 2006 campaign as Vick became the first quarterback in NFL history to rush for 1,000 yards in a season. Knapp went on to become the offensive coordinator for the Oakland Raiders (2007-08, 2012) and the Seattle Seahawks (2009) where he linked back up with Quinn. He also spent time as the quarterbacks coach with the Houston Texans (2010-11), where he helped coach current Falcons backup quarterback Schaub. In 2010, Schaub threw for 4,370 passing yards and 24 touchdowns – both are the second-highest of his career. Knapp got his coaching start at Sacramento State as the Hornets running backs coach. He spent nine years at Sacramento State where he was eventually promoted to Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator, spending four years in that position (1991-94). Knapp has coached 13 players that have played in at least one Pro Bowl. Knapp is a native of Seal Beach, CA. He doesn’t want to hire 10 Robert Salehs, he wants people that are good at the things he may not be. That makes a lot of sense to me. Also, the way he is building this staff reminds me of the way JD built his.
