Defense Wins Championships
You see. It's impossible to trade away picks multiple 1st round picks at that and still build around Watson. Maybe not impossible but difficult. His salary + picks = typical Jets situation with 0 chance to field a high octane offense around the kid. I say no. And gamble the dice on another top 3 overall QB pick. Lucky 7's. He's greatness though. Absolutely awesome. Top 3 All Time QB Rating. Alongside Rodgers and Mahomes etc. This kid is flat out greatness @ the QB position. Small market. One of the most underrated ever imo. I fear we'll trade for him and we'll then watch JD struggle @ giving our new coach players at different multiple positions that cant impact; especially on offense. Draft Justin Fields. What if we pass and he's Mahomes, Watson, Rodgers, Josh Allen or just the very best version of himself? This fan base will never hear the end of it from Jifs fan base @JiF I'm putting my belief and trust in your knowledge and insight on this one. you loved the kid like I raved about Lawrence. I hope you're right on this one. Roll them Lucky 7's bra. If not. No pressure. If he busts? All good. At least it didn't cost us pick(s) and salary cap space. So why not gamble #2 overall? Watson stopped the Clemson QB curse and maybe this Fields kid can set a trend for future Ohio State QBs. A risk I'm willing to take. Keep Sam. For this year. Don't trade him. Give Sam a chance with a new HC and a brand new mindset. No more Gase. Maybe an Allen Robinson and Najee Harris. Who knows. Maybe we'll have two really good QBs? Good problem to have before heading into Sam's 5th year. Let Fields pull a Rookie Patrick Mahomes. Learn from the practice field and sidelines for 1 year. Learn the playbook inside out before being thrown to the wolves as a Rookie behind a brand new offense. Got rid of Gase. His coach. New culture. Picks and FA $$$. Good job JD. ? ? 1 2

Got rid of Gase. His coach. New culture. Picks and $$$. Good job JD. ? ? So what you're saying is when Fields shows he's a top 5 QB and he's due for a new contract we should then draft another QB and move on from him bc we wouldn't be able to put players around him to field a real team? That's essentially the excuse you're making for not bringing in Watson. Also, if you're going to advocate to use the #2 pick on a QB anyway then, trading away a 1st in 2022 and a first in 2023 as well for Watson isn't that big of a package to give up. The #2 pick would be a wash bc you were already going to use it on a QB and you'd still have a 1st in 2021 and 2022. 2023 would be the only year they wouldn't have their full lot of picks. Losing 1 pick in 2023 is going to cause the team to not be able to build the team thru the draft? The Jets would still have 17 picks in the next 2 drafts and at least 1 in each round plus a no doubt franchise QB. That is plenty of picks to build around an established star QB. Plus this let's you trade Darnold which is probably going to net them a late 2nd and late 4th at most. That would get them back to 19 picks in the next 2 years. Oh and BTW, the chances of Fields becoming a player on the level of Watson is about 20%.
Rhg1084
I actually agree with your sentiment. I’d rather build around Fields or Wilson than give away a million picks for Watson. The only thing I disagreed with is keeping Sam. Trade him for whatever we get

Defense Wins Championships
TLDR; Gamble on 1st round top 5 QBs until we can't gamble anymore. Go all in. Why not? You miss every draft shot you don't take (enter QB names here plz).

Joe Willie White Shoes
There is no such thing as Lucky 7s on a dice. Each die only has 1-6 dots. You can't roll 7s. You can roll a 7 and the odds are 1 in 6. And when you play craps, 7 is a often a bad , losing roll (if you understand the game).

shuler82
So keep spending first round picks on a QB until we hit = smart use multiple first round picks to trade for a 25 year old top NFL QB = not smart. And keeping Darnold after drafting a QB #2 overall? He walks in 2022. Unless there’s a situation where the light turns on and he plays well enough for us to give him a $25M a year contract. And then we turn around and trade away Fields NOT for the second pick in the draft.

Keep cutting through the deck. The next 1st round QB pick could become the Ace of Spades. Etc. Count through the whole 52 deck of cards for all I care but don't stop counting QBs; until you get dealt one. Roll the ? on Justin Fields. Backs against the wall. Count the cards @ WR1, O-Line, RB and TE. Immediately throw that deck away (minus Becton/Mims). It's easy to count cards when you've got A++ #2 available salary cap space and also A+ draft capital; • Sign an Allen Robinson, Chris Godwin or JuJu Smith-Schuster (FA WR) for Fields. • Sign a Brandon Scherff/Joe Thuney @ LG opposite of Mekhi Becton. • Draft Najee Harris/Travis Etienne RB (Seattle). Giving Fields an explosive and freakish running back; behind a beast LT/LG duo. • Draft Terrace Marshall Jr/Rondale Moore @ WR (2nd round) in order to surround both our FA#1 WR and Denzel Mims with yet another, WR weapon. • Double Dip on the O-Line throughout round three. 3A.) Center. 3B.) RG. Both Fields/Najee are now protected by an A+ O-Line. Come on JD. If you're reading. You know you want to do it, as a former O-Lineman yourself. And don't stop there give Fields and Najee another 2022 1st round Franchise LT with one of our two 1st round picks (and immediately move him to RT opposite of Becton). ✓ Now that's the deck after counting through it, that I'd want to play. I can't remember the last time I counted through a Jets deck where I've seen a young QB with 1st round talent surrounded by nothing but playmakers and O-Lineman. Sam's hand was stacked against him. Hopefully Fields hand is a cheat code that would get someone like JD banned at a real casino. The time to take QB #2 overall is now. And The time to immediately build an offense around him with Blue Chip talents, was yesterday. If JD is good at counting cards, well then DWC will finally be able to gamble and bet on my Jets and for the first time ever consistently win $ off my favorite team over the next 15-20 years. (I bet lots of N.E fans who Money Lined N.E every single game over the past 20 years got filthy rich, I would've bet 1K on them to just win every game if I were smart but unfortunately I already liked to bet against them ?). One day the Jets will be fun to bet on. But it won't happen unless we draft our Franchise QB. With assets to build firepower around him. Deal the Texans 3 first rounders for Watson and poor Watson.
