Second, I have no respect for a player who bails on his team and hides behind a pandemic. He didn't want to play, period. Neither of these are good reasons to take a financial hit when there is no reason to do so. This is an emotional, illogical response to the situation. If he shows up out of shape or without a particular fire to play, sit him on the bench. There's your catharsis. Tell him he has 2 choices: 1) play hard for the new regime, or 2) become an after-thought on the roster until 2022/retirement.

Sure he can't be cut but if he can't cover in the 4-3 expect him to be traded before the draft. He would likely fetch a decent pick too. We would have a dead money hit of 6m if traded and his cap hits for his new team next year would be 6m. Thats a great deal for a Pro Bowl player and would get us a mid round pick imo. Explain? He's owed $62M ($22M guaranteed) over the next 4 years and hasn't played in 2 years. Not one team would want to take on that contract.

Not one team would want to take on that contract. Well I explained in the post you responded to but lets break it down further. CJ is extremely tradeable this offseason and if we want to shed this contract its a perfect time for us. We might even grab a 3rd or 4th for him. Here is why: 1. We paid his roster bonus of 10m already for the 2021 season. 2. If we trade him his signing bonus remaining of 6m accelerates. So we eat that. 3. His remaining salary for 2021 for his next team is then only 6m which is an absolute steal for a Pro Bowl LB. 4. Lastly the rest of the guarantees are in his base salary next year and 2022. Assuming hes traded CJ would have no guaranteed money in his deal in 2023 and 2024 and hes likely to get cut if he doesn't play well. His cap hit is 6m next year if traded for his new team and 16m the following year. Its essentially a 2 yr/22m deal right now if you trade for him. 5. If Saleh does not think he fits this scheme look for him to get us a middle round draft pick around the draft. While he has not played in 2 years there are going to be total JAGs getting 10m a year in FA. CJ was a stud and is only 6m this year. With many teams cap strapped this upcoming year hes going to garner interest.
BurnleyJet
Horrible signing, like many I want him gone. I just don’t think it’s possible in 2021. If we move to a 4-3 he just isn’t a Mike Linebacker in that scheme.

None of the above explains why any team out there would want to give up draft capital for a 29-year old 3-4 ILB who hasn't played for 2 years, even on a 2-year, $22M deal as you state. Your explanation is that they'd want him BECAUSE there are teams strapped for cap space? What? lol. If by some miracle some team were interested in this, we'd probably get something like a conditional 6th rounder back. Might as well just keep him and use him instead. This is all silly. He's going nowhere.

There will 100% be interest if we want to move him.
