Integrity28
I wouldn’t want to be a GM this year: - fewer college games - players opted out - limited pre-draft If you think about it, it might make a lot of sense to trade out of #2 and minimize the risk we incur without the full process in place for scouting players. I dunno. Getting a proven player in exchange for the 2 is especially appealing in this context. I wouldn’t want to trade away future picks though. If you think about the onus that Saleh and JD are putting on character, then this years restrictions make it even more limiting to really know what makes these kids tick. Curious what other folks think about this unique variable - since it’s not really being acknowledge here yet. 3
SomebodytoAnybody47
Wouldn’t this just mean teams need to rely more on film then usual? Would think that’s a good thing. Downside is you can’t get a full sense of who the person is outside of football. I think there’s ways around it to find out the info you need.
Popular Post Jet_Engine1
Stupid. So, 200+ players and Coaches etc can practice and play games at the Senior Bowl, East-West, etc., but they can't run a 40 or work out. 3 1
Popular Post freestater
Its almost like its the perfect year to trade away draft picks for a top flight QB that you already know is a quality nfl starter. 6

flgreen
Kind of strange when you think about it, the players can't be interviewed with masks, and social distanceing, weighted, and examined in medical facility's (just like when you go to the doctor) or allowed to run, and lift by themselves. They are allowed to line up a foot from one another while heavy breathing into other players faces. Slam into one another while sweating, and bleeding, stand in a huddle with their heads almost touching, and bring close to a 100 people together on the sidelines and locker rooms on Sunday. Hmmmm, wonder what the difference is? Couldn't be money over health could it?.
LionelRichie
removing the workout warriors from the mix and relying on film + college coach input will probably improve the drafting process. The 'small school' guys are definitely going to be harder to evaluate and it will be interesting to see what happens if this process ends up better. FWIW...was looking at a draft site yesterday, think it might have been DraftNetwork, and they brought this topic up in regard to the Penn St. LBer who opted out, I think Parsons. Said teams were wondering about his true desire for football. The thing that gives me some confidence is that JD recently was on Michael Kay, and in response to a question about the combine this year, said that before any of the pre draft stuff starts, that as far as the scouts go, like 90% of all these guys resumes' are done.

That said, an abandonment of ‘norms’ is often disruptive to most people. So, it’ll be interesting to see what impact it has. If any. If it actually goes great, then does the future of the combine change?

Beerfish
Of all the years the Jets should do the right thing in this regard it is this year. Just ask the fans Joe Douglas, come to the Jetnation draft forum. We will guide you to greatness. We will make sure you do not take a Darron Lee or Hackenburg. We will make sure you do not waste a pick on a 4th string QB in the 4th round with talent still there. We will not allow you to take a rush end in the 3rd round. Listen to us Joe.....Do the right thing and listen.

Waka Flocka Flacco
Last year with abbreviated time for visits, the Jets took Mims, Davis, Zuniga, Perine, Mann plus Jackson from the senior bowl and Morgan, Clark plus Huff from the shrine game. This year there's no combine and no visits and no shrine game.

If you listen to Daniel Jeremiah, him and Joe Douglas come from the same scouting school of thought, he talks about a large portion of character information coming from interviewing family, friends, coaches, classmates, teachers, community leaders, etc. Not sure if there are any restrictions on those, but good scouting departments are able to get a better understanding of a player's character and motivators through these interviews. Jeremiah has also noted that not all scouting departments do this and that the Ravens were one of the few that did. Hopefully, Douglas has implemented this with the Jets.

SAM SAM HE'S OUR MAN
MIAMI — A South Florida-based performance facility founded by former star wide receiver Brandon Marshall will try to help fill the void left by the NFL not allowing in-person workouts for the scouting combine because of the coronavirus pandemic. House of Athlete announced Tuesday the facility will host its own combine for players preparing for this year’s draft. Up to 50 players will have the chance March 3-5 to show off their skills for NFL teams, with the event expected to be broadcast live. The NFL told teams Monday the league won’t allow in-person workouts because of health and safety precautions due to COVID-19 concerns. The NFL combine is typically held in Indianapolis in late February. Any workouts this year will take place on the individual pro days on college campuses. Interviews of prospects and psychological testing and assessments will be done virtually. Marshall said House of Athlete, located in Weston, Fla., is aiming to safely provide a full range of scouting activities and more at its facility.
