Matt Stafford and Lions part ways

So at this point there could be 4 trade options for the
Jets in the top 10:

- ATL at #4 if they want a QB
- CIN at #5 if they want Sewell
- DET at #7 if they want a QB
- CAR at #8 if they want a QB

Anyone who suggests trading for Matt Stafford over Deshaun Watson while "k33pInG MOAR PicKS" gets their dick stomped on.

I've been harping on the Jets not to become HOU or DET.  Teams with high priced, stat producing QB's but incomplete rosters that don't win.  And now in the space of a week both teams are in turm

This. We have been looking for a franchise QB for 50 years.  Now, we hve the #2 overall pick, choice of any QB in the draft other than Lawrence.  This season.  Or, we may have an opportunity to acquir

Lions gathering assets for Watson?

2 #1 picks this season. Hmmmm?

Watson has a no trade clause.

No way he chooses to go to Detroit

The Lions are the Lions. The Houston owner apparently hired a cult leader to manage their operation.

Weren't the Texans in the divisonal round up 24-3 just last year?

I keep forgetting, building the team then going down to Walmart and getting a QB from the QB aisle works so well. Who was the last franchise QB for the Jets?

Colts: trade 21st overall and a 3rd rounder for Stafford

Lions: trade 21st overall, 7th overall and 2nd rounder for the number 2 overall

Jets: trade the 7th overall, 21st overall, 23rd overall and Darnold to the Texans for Watson

The Stafford trade may be worked out by the Super Bowl. Hell it could even get worked out at the Senior Bowl. Reminds me when Alex Smith got traded to Washington on January 30 in 2018.

And Washington’s new gm is the dude who drafted Stafford #1....

Definitely not.

Watson has had knee issues in the past.

And DET's new head coach...well...let's just say it's not a good fit.

Yes, you are correct BUT, building a complete roster and not having a QB is bad too.  (INDY, SF, Rams, Jets w/Sanchez)

So the answer is to do both - build the team and get the QB (in any order).  KC order (Team first) or Arizona, Buf order (QB first).

Getting QB is harder, so if one pops into your lap, take him. (2017 draft lesson).

It's something to monitor, but I would imagine the Lions will try to avoid trading him within the NFC if they could.

I'm sure the Jets, Pats, Colts, Broncos, maybe Raiders will at least inquire from the AFC. NFC is Washington, Chicago, Carolina, 49ers...

Is the 2 overall pick by itself not worth 3 first rounders or close to it?

Yes.  Because it is either Fields or Wilson.

Bears trading for Stafford is the exact kind of desperation move a GM/HC would make after being told by ownership they basically have 1 year to get better and improve at the quarterback position.

Just seems to be the route Douglas will go.

Nobody on this site knows "the route Douglas will go"

We have no idea whether he truly thinks Sam is worth trying to salvage.

Agreed, just saying that it seems to be.

I’d personally draft Wilson at 2 and ship Sam off to the highest bidder.

Most realistic 3-team trade out there: SF sends 2021 1(12), 2021 3(102), 2022 2, and QB Garoppolo; NE sends 2021 2(46); DET sends QB Stafford...

  • DET receives: 2021 1(12 via SF), 2021 2(46 via NE), 2022 2(tbd via SF)
  • NE receives: QB Jimmy Garoppolo and 2021 3(102)
  • SF receives: QB Matthew Stafford

We need a QB too.  We're not trading out.

Jets will be using #2 overall for a QB....

This.

There are win-now capable teams needing a Watson and then there are rebuilding teams that need a rookie QB reset.  Teams that can handle the QB on a max deal have the draft pieces already in place.  Teams with a dry roster need to have a young cheap rookie QB to build around.  That’s the Jets.

The discussion needs to be Darnold vs. Wilson.  This Watson thing is just a distraction.

SAR I

Gotta agree here. As much as I want Watson and think this would be something we absolutely must pursue through completion...it has a pipe dream feel to it.

No harm chopping it up about the possibilities though.

But reality is Darnold or Wilson will probably be our choices.

Perfect trade down spot for us.

Will get a ton but still be picking rather high

The Jets are either using that pick to take a QB or trade for one. If you don't have a QB and you have the #2 pick you take a QB. You don't get to draft that high that often.
