2021 NY JETS/NFL FREE AGENCY DRAFT TRADES RUMORS HAPPENINGS ***

Do we have any rumors on guys high on the Jets free agent list? Seems pretty locked tight in terms of info

Many writers have WR Fuller signing with Jets. He's just a walking injury.  HARD PASS.  I'd rather just draft a rookie high in draft.  No one wants to come here.  If we get Watson then I can see something breaking our way in FA but that trade would have to happen sooner than later.

Free agents like us fans are skeptical of the QB situation here.

Working in our favor though is all the players that are available this off-season.

Sign 1 good one and others will come.

5 decent immediate impact starters in free agency and 5 decent immediate impact players in the draft.

New team.

Kwon Alexander was released by the @Saints as well as w/Emmanuel Sanders.

Kwon’s played in 16 gms only once in his career

I liked him in the JN mock draft that year, but we can do better with our $$$ at this point.

Periman, Fant, McGovern, Van Roten, Flacco, Gore, Davis, Mann, Mims, Becton

2-14 Woop De Do

JD better ace this FA and draft.  Or else.

This one is absolutely a possibility. There's a belief is that Thuney will have options but is most likely headed to Cincinnati, with Linsley becoming the highest paid center for the Jets. I only think the Jets will sign 2 guys to big contracts: 1 OL and 1 WR. I think they trade for a DE, then fill out the roster with a ton of mid-to-low level free agents. I won't be surprised if we sign like 15+ players.

Attention Walmart shoppers. Low tier FA's available in the toilet aisle.  :chas:

Jets' Pass-Rushing Free Agency Snapshot
One of the stated goals for GM Joe Douglas' Jets going forward has been:

"We have to get after the passer."

That hasn't come to the fore yet. Last season the Green & White's sacks (31, tied for 20th in NFL) and QB hits (84, 19th) were both three-year lows. The good news was that DL Quinnen Williams, while not an edge rusher type, still emerged as a second-year pass-rush force with team-leading totals of 7.0 sacks and 14 hits. Not huge numbers but definite signs that "Q" is rising to the occasion as an NFL force.

The only other players with three-plus sacks last season were LB Tarell Basham (3.5) and DL John Franklin-Myers (3.0). DL Folorunso Fatukasi had only 2.0 sacks but developed some giddyup as an inside rusher. LB Jordan Jenkins missed four games with injury, had a career-low 2.0 sacks, and can become a UFA.

The wild card for '21 is LB C.J. Mosley, who was on the COVID opt-out list last season. Said HC Robert Saleh after meeting Mosley at the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center: "My expectation is no different than for any other player that's here. For C.J., it's to continue to be the pro that he's been since the day he was drafted and the leader that he's been and find ways to get better every single day."

At ILB, Mosley hasn't been a major pass-rusher in his career and Saleh's 49ers defenses didn't get major sacks/pressures from LBs, but with C.J. back at full health and availability as he spearheads Saleh's 4-3 scheme, that should optimize the pass rush from the returning Jets and the new bodies added in free agency and the draft.

Douglas said of the recent release of Anderson, "I want to thank Henry for what he brought to the team the past few years — his toughness, his leadership, his mentality. So I appreciate that." While Anderson provided availability (1,655 defensive snaps past three years, most among Jets DL) and blocked kicks, he never approached his seven sacks of 2018, totaling only 1.5 combined in 2019-20.

Just don't get why a guy would sign 3 days before FA window? You don't even want to SEE what another team offers? I get it if you're a scrub but I can't imagine Buffalo would have pulled that offer...

Apparently the Bills are shocked he accepted their offer

Question: since the salary cap is lower this year, does that lower the contracts this year’s rookie draft class    get? Especially the 1st round picks? I believe they use a slotted scale  Correct?

Jesse James‘ two-year stint in Detroit has come to an end. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports (via Twitter) that the Lions have released the veteran tight end. The move will save the team more than $6MM over the next two years.

I'd have some interest in him, as the #2 guy, if the Jets want to stick with Herndon as the #1 again this year.

NFL Draft 2021: Could Jets’ Joe Douglas trade down and still pick Sam Darnold’s replacement?

Updated 6:45 AM; Today 6:45 AM

New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold could be traded. Andrew Mills | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com

Well, here’s a new one.

Most projections for the 2021 NFL Draft that involve the Jetstrading out of the No. 2 pick also include them retaining quarterback Sam Darnold — and giving him one more chance.

But not the latest mock draft from CBSSports.com’s Pete Prisco. He has the Jets trading down, in a deal with the Panthers, who pick BYU quarterback Zach Wilson at No. 2.

Here’s the rationale:

The Panthers make a bold move here to go up and get a quarterback. The Jets will stockpile picks and stick with Sam Darnold in this scenario.

But wait. There’s more.

Prisco, at No. 8, has the Jets picking Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields. And here’s why:

They trade down, add extra picks, and still end up with a quarterback. That would be a wise move for Joe Douglas.

OK, but why in the world would Douglas also keep Darnold, in this scenario? Might as well trade him, entering the final year of his rookie contract, and get something for him. If Douglas is drafting a quarterback eighth overall, his current quarterback (Darnold) obviously isn’t in his long-term plans. Right?

Buy Marcus Maye Jets gear: Fanatics, NFL Shop, Lids

Keep an eye on Washington as a possible trade destination for Darnold. The Bears could be an option, too. Washington picks 19th this year, and the Bears pick 20th. That’s probably too low for either quarterback-needy team to trade up and address the position in the draft.

That’s the price for going 7-9 and 8-8 and losing in the wild-card round of the playoffs, as Washington and the Bears did last season. The Jets, of course, are in better control of their draft situation, as they seek a competent quarterback. That’s what happens when you go 2-14.

As foolish as this sounds, I think I want Jus more than anyone. Well I’ll correct that: first Curtis Samuel, next Juszczyk.

I don’t think it’s an overstatement to say that the guy is a transcendent back... and I’m going to call him a back because calling him a fullback is a disservice. Best way to describe him is by using a basketball reference: he doesn’t need the ball to make his impact felt. He does things for an offense that people don’t realize on the surface, but gives the offense such versatile game plans and defense fits intra-game. Couple that with his receiving ability and outstanding character, he’s the type of player you want when establishing a culture and identity.

One stat that has resonated with me: in 2020, the 49ers were +2 EPA (expected points added) when he was on the field. When he was off? -8 EPA. There’s some flaw in these stats, but that wide of a margin is pretty insane.

Kyle talks about last time when he was a free agent he didn't sign with a team that gave him the highest offer because he felt like they weren't headed in the right direction...  Really high on him as well. Seems like we have a good shot at signing him.
