Scott Dierking
I think the more painful cuts start tomorrow. They are already starting to call tomorrow, if the CBA does not happen, "Bloody Thursday". There will be "name" players out there. Signing bonuses will be greatly reduced, and it will be interesting to see how everyone tests the waters. I hope it does not come to that.
quietjets
If Pennington is cut, I will pretend to see Coles and Kendall go to ease Pennington's whopping 12 million charge in 2006. Coles and Kendall's cut will be 10 million saving... However, Jets still are over the cap... Damn, it is terrible. Mark my bet on it, once Pennington is gone, Jets are in rebuilding mode so thus Jets could not use JA to trade up to get Leinart because Jets may need to use JA to get more draft picks in middle rounds. Coles and Kendall's cut will be 10 million saving... However, Jets still are over the cap... Damn, it is terrible. If Pennington is cut, we will save $3M. His cap charge is $15M, and if cut, he would have $12M in dead cash, thus saving $3M.

I was referring to the situation that appeals either Pennington takes a paycut or Pennington will be cut... I think Pennington automatically receives 6 million in bonus agreements in any term that keeps Pennington. Pennington barks at a 1m base salary which is recuded from 9 million... Pennington may receive at least 7 million in 2006 if he stays with Jets.. I estimate that Jets will save at least 5 million to keep Pennington after redoing Pennington's contract.. If Pennington gets a hitch then Jets may need to cut Coles and Kendall to meet March's salary cap deadline.. That means Coles and Kendall dismissal will beat this friday deadline for salary cap with either Pennington's taking paycut or cut.. Cutting Mawae wont help. PS.. I merely talk about the plan for 2006. Beyond that, Jets will still face a salary cap issue due to a lot of dead cash.
quietjets
Ah I see where i am wrong...... Please disregard my first post of this thread. I mean... When Pennington is cut, Jets may need to trim few players that are totaled at least 8 million to meet the March's first deadline to meet the salary cap. Sorry. quietjets
According to this website' Jets' Salary cap Page, it is IMPOSSIBLE to beat this friday's deadline to meet or be under the salary cap... I read somewhere that cutting Coles and Kendall will save 10 million... Damnit...it is difficult to follow up the Jet players' contract right. tonysxl1200c
I think you're going to see Coles, Pennington, Ellis, & Robertson restructure, Mawae either restructure or cut, and Barton and Kendall cut. Possibly more, it's going to be ugly.

Possibly more, it's going to be ugly. Is that right, we cant restructure players' bonuses? If so, then it is impossible to be done because Coles and Ellis whose most salary comes from bonuses.. Besides Pennington, Robertson also has a great base salary which is between 4-5 m.. It is more likely Jets will receive a fine for failing to meet the salary cap by March's deadline.. It would be a miracle if Jets manage to pull a trick to meet the March deadline... It is intriguing.

tonysxl1200c
I am within about $700K. Not bad since I was about $25M off last October! For quietjets, we can restructure base salary and roster bonuses. Coles is due a BIG roster bonus that can be reduced or eliminated. Same with Ellis. Drob, Mawae, and Kendall have big base salaries that can be reduced. There is no way the Jets don't meet the cap deadline of 4PM Thursday. If they don't, it would be the first time I can ever think of a team not meeting the cap.

Sperm Edwards
I can't believe they're going to choose to restructure Coles instead of cutting him. He's been paid $5M in bonus (only $1M of which has come off the cap so far) He's due another $7M bonus coming up. If he restructures that, then we've given him $12M in bonuses, which means $11M must come off the cap over the next 4years (unless we extend his current deal even further) So that means almost $3M must come off the cap each year for the next 4 years NOT including his base salary, which is 2006 $2M = cap charge of ~$6M 2007 $4M = cap charge of ~$8M (cost to cut ~$8M) 2008 $5M = cap charge of ~$9M (cost to cut ~$5M 2009 $6M = cap charge of ~$10M (cost to cut ~$2-3M) Ridiculous compensation/cap hit for a 1A/#2 WR. Long term it may be better to cut him & take the $4M cap hit this year ($6M net savings in 2006). Otherwise how many players do we have to cut to keep this one? So after this guy got a giant bag of green in bonus $ from Washington & played there 2 years, then we gave Santana Moss for the privilege of giving Coles another $5M SB last year, and then he's due a $7M roster bonus this year? Coming on the heels of giving Chad an $18M SB & Ellis a $15M SB? Bradway shouldn't have been demoted. He should've been fitted for cement shoes. How exactly was he planning on getting us out of this mess in the first place?
Scott Dierking
How exactly was he planning on getting us out of this mess in the first place? The Cowards way. "Ummmm, guys, I really don't think I want to do this GM job right now. You know the hours, the travel, it really isn't how it was portrayed to me in the interview. Do you have a scout opening on the team, where I can get close to the same pay? That would really make me happy, and I would be home when the kids get out of school"
