LOL easier said than done

Or maybe don't build a program based on viagra

Watson would really love Florham Park today. It's like 4 degrees outside

I've yet to see any explanation why Watson would actually want this

because the team has the resources to build a contender if they make the right moves. if watson comes to new york and wins he is talked about in the same breath as derek jeter and joe namath. thats enticing

Just for me personally, I think we should build up the OL and give Sweet Sammy another shot, we can always trade for a 25-year-old top-5 QB a year from now. JMO

Congratulations to the Miami Dolphins.

How do we correlate a 2nd round pick + washed up RB for Hopkins with all this?  Let's not forget that Houston does not value picks as other teams do.

In the end, Houston probably keeps Watson and saves face. And that brings us back to Darnold vs Wilson. I can see why people prefer the trade down in that scenario.

Tell me where all the board confidence in Darnold is coming from?

How will they save face if Watson refuses to play?  No 1st round pick and AJ McCarron as the starting QB isn't really a risk they can take.  Sure, they can tank in that instance, but why waste a full season like that when they can possibly get the # 2 pick right now?

I don't see how Houston comes away from this situation with Watson at QB and not looking like a complete disaster.

Thats not just a situation that gets planes over head for Caserio's firing. Thats a situation where people want new ownership.

This is Texas we're talking about, so my guess is guns would be involved somehow.

I'd offer the Texans our 2021 #23, a 2021 3rd round pick, our 2021 Seattle #1 pick, our own 2022 #1 and #3 Picks and Sam Darnold (QB).

Then I'd do everything possible to trade down out of #2 in 2021 to acquire a mid-1st in 2021 and a 1st in 2022.

That's my plan as of today.

So:

Jets Offer:
2021 1st Round Pick #23
2021 3rd Round Pick
2022 1st Round Pick (Seattle)
2023 1st Round Pick
2023 3rd Round Pick
Sam Darnold (QB)

Texans Offer:
Deshaun Watson (QB)

SORRY this AIN'T enough for an ELITE  QB

Who is Sam Darnold?

Contra case Adams averaged a sack per game and is going to get a pile of money from someone at some point

This is like saying that Jumbo Elliot caught every touchdown pass they threw to him

Empty sacks are only a thing for players not named Jamal Adams, in Bit's world.

And clearly using a SS solely as a blitzer is very sustainable and worthy paying $18M a year.  Certainly he's proving to be a very durable player in that role!

It’s like you want to buy this awesome house in your neighborhood and you know the couple who owns it is broke and headed for divorce because the husband is a born-again who now disavows all earthly excesses, but the wife is a dime, so you have your realtor slip a lucrative offer to the wife to buy the house if and when the husband can’t bring the wood anymore. Then you wait for the divorce. Meanwhile, the wife is sending you nude selfies on the low, and your other neighbor’s wives are whispering into the dime’s ear that you secretly have a 10” dick and can drive nails into a 2x4 with your tongue. It’s only a matter of time.

So to be clear, you've been the husband in this instance, correct?  Explains a lot!

You have to absolutely insane if you think they don’t break down and trade him for picks before the draft. They have zero first round picks and a brand new regime. You’ll see. It doesn’t have to look like they will at this very moment but they will.

Then you're just seeing what you want to see.  Darnold's confidence looked completely broken in multiple games last season.

It did at times. The lowest I saw him all year was against Denver (ironically considering he ran that 45 yard TD... he was pretty pumped up for that, otherwise, looked defeated... could attribute it to his shoulder injury but didn't look confident even before that). Worst game of the season in terms of production (not stats) had to be IND for me.

What I saw from him when he came back from injury was a confident QB, just not a very good one. The production wasn't there, he was inconsistent, made a lot of mistakes. But I didn't see someone who was "defeated" per se.

Cool!  Have fun with no 1st round pick, AJ McCarron at QB, and a PR nightmare, Houston!

And then what happens next year?

If it gets to the point where Deshaun is missing games, they'll reconsider their stance. Until that point they'll hold firm.

Absolutely none — and then they miss out on a ton of picks they could of used to spring board the new regime into success. They can play hard ball all they want, in the end, they’ll do what every new front office with zero high picks will do.

I don't know that there's an advantage. Again, it's the about the word of the day: hedging

  1. Deshaun's mad enough already, but there's hope that once the agents get drowned out and he gets a chance to connect with the coaching staff, he'll come back. Make him available for trade or god forbid a conversation gets leaked that you're vetting out teams to trade for him? Now you're definitely not getting him back.
  2. They're not a competitive football team and he's one of the best players in the NFL. You're not replacing him if you move him before the draft so why not wait it out and see if Culley and his staff can mend the fences? As they say, time heals all wounds.
  3. Whether Deshaun plays or not, I don't think the front office believes this team will compete. You won't hear the coaching staff say that, but the FO doesn't expect much. If he sits out, you're probably picking 1st in 2022 and then you can revisit trading him to a team likely willing to pay the same +3 1st round picks that teams were willing to pay this year.

football guy just said the Texans aren't trading Watson.  Presumably, he thinks they never will trade him.  Not now or in a future season.

And sacrifice the 2021 draft capital in the process.  Smart!

Whew! Glad the prognosis isn't that he lacks confidence and is merely that he sucks

I don’t have money to spare on the outcome of a football team. BUT... You will see & I will be here to say I told you so.

I'm your huckleberry.  Charity bet.  If Watson gets traded you owe $100 to one of Watson's charities.  😁

I’ll just leave this here

  • Odell: discussed trading him before signing him to an extension; distraction on the field
  • Rosen: was the worst-kept secret that Kingsbury took the job because the team promised they would at the very least strongly consider taking Murray #1 overall
  • Adams: Douglas considered the aspect of trading him before Jamal demanded a trade; Gase+Johnson didn't want him traded.

I agree with you that teams lie through their teeth all the time, but Watson isn't one of them. They haven't entertained trade talks and have made it abundantly clear that they won't be trading him ATM. Could that change? Maybe if Deshaun holds out of team activities, which won't happen until after the draft...

I have an informed opinion that they are not trading him before the draft.

I believe that he'll eventually report and things will get cleared up. If he doesn't report to team activities, I'm not sure. No one from Caserio's inner circle has an idea what he would do.

Meh. I get taking the time to see if you can fix it. But I don’t see how that should be a long process. You meet with him, talk it out but if he’s set on moving on then it should be known pretty early. I wouldn’t want this to hang over the team for 2 off seasons.
And if some team offers 3 ones and then some now...that’s a pretty big gamble saying no and hoping for the same a year later.

But what’s the road back for the Texans now? They hired a D-list coach, Easterby is still there, they have no firsts to add to the roster, and Houston is such a disaster that it’d be hard to imagine any free agents signing there. There are no cards left to play to induce Watson to come back other than the fines, but at that point, the whole franchise will be in flames. With Caserio finally putting his neck out to take a GM job, why the hell would he invite this kind of drama into his life? Take the best package of picks for Watson and Watt, draft Zack Wilson, and start fresh. Makes no sense to hang onto Watson’s ankles out of some misguided sense of principles.
