AFJF
But I'm still pretty damn excited...just got a set of orders to England. I'll be there come Oct of this year for a two year stint. Any former military folks been stationed there? I've been there for a couple of visits (and another coming up in April) but wondering whos familiar with the Croughton area. Maxman
AF, Let me ask you a few questions. Mainly because we as a site care about you as a person: 1. How will living overseas impact your ability to post? 2. Will it make you more or less likely to visit JetNation.com for news and sports talk? 3. Will living in another country make you more or less likely to pay $55 for the content here. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your service AirForceJet No problem man, I'm still counting down the days for my WWII trip in April that will also begin in London and end in Berlin. Thats going to be a hell of a trip. Hats off to your dad for taking part in WWII, the last great war, and the odds the troops were able to overcome are mind boggling. I have nothing but respect for every one of those guys. AFJF
Will you still be able to watch the games? I'll get game every week but it'll be random. AFRTS broadcasts games every week but you never know what game it'll be. I wonder if direct TV does business overseas????

Actually civilians pay the same thing. But more importantly...thanks for your service, stay safe and God Bless!

But more importantly...thanks for your service, stay safe and God Bless! Serving is an honor...thanks Sounds like a bargain to me:yahoo: I've been doing a little homework on the base I'm going to and it looks promising. While the city itself has a population of 400, I'll be about 90 minutes from London, 20 minutes from Oxford, 20 minutes from Warwick castle (which is awesome, went there a few years ago) and obviously lots of opportunity for me to travel throughout Europe. Not to mention you can catch a train that runs from London to St. Petersburg, Russia so I'm going to try to do the Trans Siberian Express. I dont leave for another six months but I can't wait. Rob D
Any idea on the direct tv thing? I'm going to call and find out if they operate outside of the US. I don't believe direct tv is available in the UK, though I don't have a clue whether or not there are any special arrangements made with US military bases here. As PDM says, your best bet is the usual games shown on British TV. Sky Sports is a satellite channel, so you will have to find a bar or something if you want to watch that. They show two Sunday games, one from each of the 1pm and 4pm slots (though that is 6pm and 9pm here). They also show the Thursday night season opener, the two Thanksgiving games, the Saturday games around Christmas time, plus the entire post-season. Channel five on the other hand, is a free to air channel that you can get through a normal TV antenna. They show all of the Monday night games, plus the Sunday night games after the Baseball season ends (this may change next season, I don't know yet). If you have any other questions, just ask. I hope you enjoy your stay in the UK.
The Gun Of Bavaria
I'd give my left nut to live in England. A bold statement given that I already gave my right nut away to live in Germany for 3 years.

Funny thing is guns, I've had England on my "dream sheet" for years now but I kind of gave up on it the other day and said "take all of my volunteer choices off of the list, I'm doing a special letter of request to go to San Antonio" (love it there). Well, as it turns out, the day I told them to wipe out all of my choices was the same day that my new orders came in. I'm so psyched for this. NJ
Thanks for serving AFJF. Just because you're not sniffing Bin Laden out of some cave in Afganistan, doesn't mean you're not a vital cog in the gearbox that keeps this country free and safe. You should love the UK. Never lived there but have been there a bunch. Public transportation is like a dream - makes it so you wouldn't want to have a car. And you can get to Pas-de-Calais from London through the Chunnel in a little over an hour to see some blow away WWll stuff. You may end up getting through some games on the web with CBS Sportsline like some of us other out-of-towners, but there's probably not going to be a lot of playoff activity to worry about this year anyway. Good luck to you brother and thanks.

Good luck to you brother and thanks. Thanks NJS..I plan on seeing as much WWII stuff as possible. I'm actually going to be near the Oxfordshire/Buckinghamshire sites which is where the famous british Ox and Bucks come from. The same guys who were the first to land on French soil on D-Day to take Pegasus Bridge (great book) for the allies to be able to get equipment deeper in to enemy territory. I'm hoping they have a museum or memorial of some kind. I've been to England before and I've always raved about their transportation system. I'm actually considering getting rid of my car before I go to save some cash. I know the subways in London are unreal, they can get you anywhere you need to go and all the folks who work down there can give you any directions you need off the top of their head no matter where in London you're going. Once I get more details on how to go about getting to London from Croughton I'll decide if I'm keeping or selling my car. As far as playoff football, I said to my best friend last night (whos also a Jet fan) "If I had to pick a time to go overseas for a few years, this would be it. Not like I'll be missing a lot of good Jets football". I hope I'm wrong and they give me a reason to fly back to the US to try and catch a game. Thanks Bob..I'm sure I'll love it. The travel opportunity should be unreal. Can't wait to go back to Italy. The colleseum in Rome was one of the best trips I've ever taken but unfortunately I went with somebody who had no idea how to take a picture so 90% of my photos from there look like me standing against a brown wall. She never thought to maybe get a wide shot to show where the hell we were:Cuss:
