4HCrew
I remember when the Panthers picked Peppers everyone said it was risky because they were not addressing offensive needs. Seems like it worked out for them.. the more I read and watch this guy seems pretty damn impressive. Especially if J Abe is out
mudcat21
If Ferguson is picked before 4, then Williams makes alot of sense especially if we lose Abraham.
Smizzy
Mario Williams has the size & speed to be a super star. I hear he likes to take plays off but how many guys can play SUPER HUMAN EVERY DOWN? This kid was impressive on the field and he was just as good at the combine. Im sure we could move down 1 or 2 spots to give someone cutler (if brick goes 3)and still grab super mario and pick up an extra pick in the process. Kentucky Jet
I do not think SUPER MARIO will be availabe afetr the 5th pick of this draft! He is that good and can be even better with better coaches! If ABE is gine I would love to take him at 4!
ThunderbirdJet
No, I definitely would not call him a reach..... if he was a top 15 pick, yes, but he's definitely top ten, and probably higher. He could easilly go 6th or seventh, so from 4, I can't call that a reach. It's preference, not a reach.
vinnys025
Nope, he's not a reach at all. Neither is Vernon Davis who is also one of the best TE prospects to come out in a long time. Either Davis or Super Mario would definatly fill a much needed hole in our team. I wouldnt be upset if we picked either one.
Barton
No way is he a reach. Great player, and maybe the best athlete in this draft (defense or offense). Mangini is a defensive coach, and Mario can be a cornerstone player like Seymour. I took Mario in my mock draft, and I hope we take him in April. PeterNorth09
I think he's a better prospect than Cutler or AJ Hawk. He's 6-7 290lbs and an excellent athelete. If we go with a 3-4 Robertson can't play nose, however, team Robertson with this massive DE and we could probably go 3-4 then.

Didn't the Jets give up two 1st's and a 4th for a similar player 3 years ago?

You think Mario and Drob are similar? But you think the Jets would be smart to take Mario?

Dunta_23
I dunno if his talents would be properly used in the 3-4 as the front 3 dont "usually" get to the QB...he is probably better suited to the 4-3...would be a great pickup for any team
4HCrew
I am really leaning toward drafting him given that Abe is gone. He would be a true impact player that can help the team now and not in 4 years.
quietjets
If Jets sign Schaffer and Cutler is gone by 4th overall selection then I will lean toward to Ngata because he is a solvent for 3-4 NT... If Mangini decides to stick with 4-3 scheme then mario williams may be the right call. I like to see Jets add Coefield to mix with McChesney, Pouha and Robertson as well.. Occasionally, Jets may play 3-4 with McChesney and Coefield with Pouha at NT. This should be help.
GreenBeans
Mario Williams is NOT, repeat NOT Julius Peppers. Peppers has a complete game, Mario Williams, for all of his size, is a edge speed rusher. He consistantly gets up field which may be good on passing downs, but not so good vs. draws, screens, or running plays to his side of the field. This guy was consitently out of position while playing at NC State - never contains on his edge. He may be a great athlete and turn out to be a great pro with some coaching, but he is not someone you use #4 pick in the draft on IMO. I may end up dead wrong, and I hope I am for the kid's sake, but I'm not sold on "Super" Mario (and what a crock that name is, by the way). Barton
Bump - If Abe is gone, this is the pick at #4 greenbeans. I dont think he's Peppers either. I dont see him consistently putting up 15 sacks a year, but his presence and his effect on the game will be great. I think of Mario Williams having the same impact as a richard seymour type, but with more sacks than Seymour.

From everything he's done to this point at NC State - not likely. If this kid turns out to be coachable, he can be a very, very good player. Discipline and good coaching is not a strong suit at NCSU, so it's a toss-up on how coachable he really is.
bitonti
in terms of pure size/speed this dude isn't a reach at 1 for that matter neither is brick
Jack Straw
I'm not saying that Mario Williams will be a bust, but it is rare that highly touted defensive ends live up to the hype on the pro level.
Matt39
If it were between Brick and Williams I'd go with brick. I don't think this Williams kid is the freak everyones making him out to be.
The Troll
In the past 6 years, the Jets have used 4 number one draft picks on the defensive line. How many rings has that netted us again? One of the problems the Jets have is that they focus on the same positions each and every draft. So while we've been stockpiling second day safety and day one defensive linemen and corners, the offensive line has completely turned to ****. When is the last time Dwight Freeney or Julius Peppers held up the Lombardi Trophy? You don't need a sackmaster to win a championship. You need a TEAM. Right now, this team has no offense to speak of. Either pick a quarterback or a franchise tackle, it's as simple as that. Ends can be had later in the draft. For example, of the top ten sack leaders from 2005, TWO were first round picks.
