Popular Post bitonti
from AL.com (both players are from the state) Quote By Mark Inabinett | minabinett@al.com The trade that put Steve McLendon in position to become a Super Bowl champion on Sunday also separated him from one of his protégés. But McLendon is expecting Quinnen Williams to go on to 'bigger things without him. McLendon was entering his 11th season in the NFL when the New York Jets selected Williams with the third choice in the 2019 NFL Draft, putting a pair of former Alabama prep standouts on their defensive line. Williams is a Wenonah High School alumnus, and McLendon went to Carroll High School in Ozark. McLendon and Williams played as teammates through the sixth game of the 2020 season, when the Jets traded McLendon to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. McLendon said he and Williams became 'pretty close.' "When he came in, he came in eager to learn, to know more about the game," McLendon said during his Super Bowl press conference. "And the one thing that I live by and I stand by and I stand firmly on: When I leave this game and when I leave this world with all the knowledge I have attained, I can’t take it with me, so why not give this gift away. And that’s what I have been doing. I’ve been giving him this gift. Giving him gems here and there. Everything that I had or learned over the way, I would give to him. Not only him, but a lot of the other guys as well. "But talking about him in particular, I just told him, ‘Man, don’t get too caught up in all the noise. Be who you are. Be Quinnen Williams. Don’t be anybody else. Don’t try to be Superman or a super-hero. You know what you’ve done to get here, so keep doing that and now it’s time to take that to the next level. And there’s always levels of everything, and you have to understand that.’ And that’s what I told him: ‘Just keep tapping into who Quinnen Williams is. You’re not anybody else. You are the Quinnen Williams and continue to do the things that helps you prepare, that helps you be a better man, helps you be a better teammate, and the ultimate goal is to help you be a better football player.’ I think he’s doing those things very, very well." McLendon said Williams is only getting started. "He trains hard," McLendon said. "He works hard. He’s a very smart and intelligent football player. Off the field, he’s very smart as well. "I love the young man. I love his worth ethic. I love his drive. I love his focus. And it’s bigger things to come for him, even bigger things to come for him.' After prepping at Alabama high schools, McLendon and Williams went to state colleges, with Williams playing at Alabama and McLendon at Troy. https://www.al.com/sports/2021/02/steve-mclendon-foresees-bigger-things-for-quinnen-williams.html the bold feels like good life advice for anyone 3 2

RoadFan
A local Tampa analyst rewatched the Super Bowl and said McClendon played a superb game. He was in on the pass rushes as much, if not more, than JPP and Shaq Barrett. Happy for him...
