But at the point Lawrence is up for renewal Watson will also be up for a contract renewal.

Seems unlikely Watson would get a new contract/extension after 3 years into this one, so it’s more likely Lawrence will be on his next extension before Watson. That is, unless he’s not worth extending.

NFL rumors: Texans’ Deshaun Watson to Jaguars for No. 1 pick (Trevor Lawrence) could be in play

This could be the blockbuster of all NFL blockbuster trades.

The Athletic reports “One industry insider with insight into Urban Meyer thinks the Jaguars’ new coach could see the appeal of offering the first pick in April’s draft — i.e. Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence — in a package for (Deshaun) Watson. Though the Jaguars, coming off a 1-15 season, aren’t positioned to contend immediately, Watson would speed up the process for Meyer.”

Meyer, of course, is beginning his first season as an NFL head coach, after winning three national titles in college.

Lawrence is the consensus top prospect in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Everyone has assumed Meyer will begin his Jacksonville rebuild by selecting Lawrence, leaving the New York Jets with a choice to make at No. 2: select a quarterback like Ohio State’s Justin Fields or BYU’s Zach Wilson; add an offensive playmaker like Heisman Trophy-winning wide receiver DeVonta Smith; or trade down and collect more draft picks.

But a Watson-Jaguars deal would turn the draft upside down. The Texans deny they are trading the 25-year-old Watson, who wants out after four seasons in Houston, three of which saw the QB earn Pro Bowl nods.

Watson, who led the NFL with 4,823 passing yards in 2020, is disgruntled after being left out of the Texans’ decision-making process which saw them hire Nick Caserio as general manager and David Culley as head coach.

This “ article” neglects an important point.  Watson can decide where he lands with his no trade clause.
