LionelRichie
if he is cut today what will it be? he was billed as the franchise savior after the improbable '02 run and then led the team to the brink of the AFC championship game in '04 w/a torn rotator cuff. while his performance in '05 was putrid i think some of the blame has to go to herm and TB for allowing him to take the field with no arm strength. i didn't take a genious to see the floaters that were coming out of the pocket yet they left him in to take another beating. for a player with so much promise and the hopes of all jet fans he will most likely be remembered like mo and marvin - for the time he spent on the field as a shell of his former self with a broken down shoulder and the arm strength of an avg high school QB. jamesAngleton
I think you can make a case that Herm may have further injured his rotator cuff. I hate to go back to this but there was no reason for him to have come back into the game when he reinjured his shoulder.

So I guess that he also fits your description (see above).

Chad's legacy will be a great person, and a good QB (although understandbly, grossly overrated by Jet fans. BUt you couldnt blame them after what we had to go through with Vinny form 2000-2002.) who had the ability to win you a bowl if you put the right pieces around him. Played under a moron HC who threw him to the wolves last season and it just didnt work out. THe kid won a playoff game on the road with a torn rotator cuff and his 50 yard bomb being one of the biggest plays of the game. Not too many can say that. BUt I think chad will be back... Mavrik
good QB who epitimized (around 02) everything that we all love about the Jets. A no Bulls*** hard working individual who put the team before himself. I think when he showed we thought we finally found our savior. But as fortune should have it, injuries and horrible personnel decisions effectively ruined his career. We'll never know how he would have been had he not been rushed back into service. But I will never knock him for playing through pain (especially through the playoffs) For him to do whatever he could to help the team, to me, speaks volumes about him as a person. I think it's funny that Abraham couldn't play through a hangover when it counted, but Chad was willing to go out there with torn muscles in his shoulder and try to help the team out. It's unfortunate that it had to come down to this, because he is a guy you wanted to root for. If he gets cut, he will be missed.
PETROCK
Another QB, in a long line of underachieveing Jets QBs who's sandwiched in between Testaverde & Bollinger.
Latinlawyer
Vote Yes or No and why. I vote No. If they are intent on a rebirth on the O side of the ball, they might as well shed the QB with two shoulder surgeries and a huge cap number. Everyone knows 2006 will not be a winning year so why not just take the hit now and prepare for 2007. LL
DHJF
Yes. Chad knows he will garner near-zero interest from the FA market. In the end, I think he'll take the significat pay cut Jets mgmt is asking him to.
Smizzy
I think if we get him to restructure and then release him next season when there is no cap hit that would be great. So I think he will be one the roster and will get cut next yr.

Sperm Edwards
I think it depends on whether there's a last-minute CBA agreement. There likely is not going to be. Now Chad may get cut either way, but I think no CBA agreement increases his chances of staying with a restructured deal. It helps them out much more on the 2006 cap & next year there's no cap anyway so who cares what you do to the future cap by giving him an additional small SB right now? And I think that's what all this back & forth negotiation between Chad & the team has been about. Jets upped their initial offer probably contingent upon no CBA & no cap next year. If by some miracle there is a CBA reached last-minute, he is DEFINITELY getting cut to save our future salary caps. If I had to guess one way or the other without knowing about the CBA, I'd say he's cut.

SE-Doesn't any Chad restructure affect ALL the remaining years on his contract, due to this maximum 30% salary escalator on any contract from one year to teh next? Meaning, not only is Chad renegotiating THIS year, but all his years?

mudcat21
With no cap next year, why can't we sign free agents to cheap contracts this year and guarentee a big portion of their salary in 2007 when there is no cap?

What does cutting him in '07 hurt, besides feelings? there is no cap, so cutting someone and accelerating the charges all into that year will not matter. Is that right? AMJets
1050 ESPN Radio reports Jets and Chad close to a deal that, according to what I saw on another board, would be a "1 year, $3 million dollar deal". L.I.MikeBleedsGreen
I vote yes, only b/c he is going to take the pay cut and like it and we take the brick to protect that noodle arm of his or take the TE out of maryland to run those short routes b/c he can't even throw 40 yds to coles. I would have to assume that deal would include some pretty hefty incentives, including some vesting of more years with certain likely to be earned play deals

Is that right? That's what it means to have "no salary cap" in 2007. All teams would be able to dump all their bad contracts with impunity & wipe the slate clean. But I believe that since there's still an intact CBA they still need to spend a minimum of 56% of gross revenues. There's just no cap & therefore no penalty for releasing anyone at any time.
