Joejet
Teams are allowed to negotiate with the agents of upcoming unrestricted free agents during the "Two Day Negotiating Period," a 48-hour window prior to the start of free agency (in 2021: from 4 p.m. ET on March 15 until 4 p.m. ET on March 17). Self-represented players ("Unrepresented Player") can now speak with members of team front offices (but not coaching staffs) during this period, which was previously prohibited. It looks like this quote came from NFL.com, so that would seem to be the best source of truth. I guess it's 4 PM Eastern tomorrow, not 12 PM, as Field Yates referenced in his tweet and I had seen elsewhere. As of right now, T-minus 16 hours and counting... UPDATE: Every other source I can find says that the legal tampering period begins at noon ET tomorrow. I wonder if the time listed on the NFL.com page is a mistake. I guess we'll find out tomorrow. rangerous
Here’s to hoping they can land a guy like thuney. But what people seem to forget is the player has a say too. Maybe thuney doesn’t want to play for the jets? It’s not like they’re the only team wanting him. And, as we’ve seen, players will use the jets to jack up the offers from other teams. So we’ll see. It’s pretty clear the interior of the oline needs to be upgraded.

That’s the thing about free agency and the Watson ball washers saying it’s ok to trade a half dozen first round picks for him because we have $80 million in cap room There’s no guarantee even if we offer top dollar to UFAs that they will come here. We have been burned before by free agents

I think I'd prefer Linsley, because I think by having him at center and moving McGovern to guard they improve two positions on the OL (probably for less money). It's gonna be interesting to see if JD has the stomach to submit the top bids for the top guys. Unlike Mac or Tanny, that doesn't seem to be his go-to move. I'd like to hear about WRs they're talking to, too. That's an even bigger need, imho.

When our guards combined to allow 12 pressures against Aaron Donald do you think it may have made a difference to Sam? What if we had a guard that barely allowed any pressure and never took a penalty? Rewatch all our games last year and take not of all the pressure allowed by the guards/center and tell me it didn’t make a difference in the game plan. 1

Even though Linsley will be 30 in July, I’d prefer having the better, more experienced center than guard, especially if we are drafting a rookie QB.

Still wouldn’t hate signing Thuney though...Linsley would just be more prudent.

K_O_Brien
Better potential guard options than center at 23 and 34 too. Vera-Tucker + Linsley + McGovern may be a better IOL combo than one involving Thuney and a rookie center? Would still love Thuney though, and would still draft a center.

The top tier guys will be signed as you said, but I think this year we will see a lot more available guys after the tampering period because of the $182mn cap. There are 2 more waves of potential cuts that will likely be more active than in previous years: post June cuts (each team allowed up to 2 player on this list) for cap reasons and also more guys getting cut to fit the new guys signed during the tampering period under the cap. If I were him I’d want to test the market. His agent knows he’s a hot commodity plus going back to the Pats to play with Cam isn’t as attractive as it used to be where you were going back and playing with Brady.
