Report: Thuney will be JDs first call tomorrow

Recommended Posts

Teams are allowed to negotiate with the agents of upcoming unrestricted free agents during the "Two Day Negotiating Period," a 48-hour window prior to the start of free agency (in 2021: from 4 p.m. ET on March 15 until 4 p.m. ET on March 17). Self-represented players ("Unrepresented Player") can now speak with members of team front offices (but not coaching staffs) during this period, which was previously prohibited.

It looks like this quote came from NFL.com, so that would seem to be the best source of truth.  I guess it's 4 PM Eastern tomorrow, not 12 PM, as Field Yates referenced in his tweet and I had seen elsewhere.

As of right now, T-minus 16 hours and counting...

UPDATE: Every other source I can find says that the legal tampering period begins at noon ET tomorrow.  I wonder if the time listed on the NFL.com page is a mistake.  I guess we'll find out tomorrow.

The legal tampering period starts tomorrow?  Man I'm out of touch.  That snuck up on me.

No sh*t. I've honestly lost track of what year we're even in at this point.

The witch told me it won’t happen... we’ll see.

connor saying the Jets will feel out one of the better OLINE free agents is hardly a scoop.

Hey, you take that back — Bitonti is not a witch. You know we don’t allow personal attacks here.

Tomorrow?  JD better be on the phone 12:01

Great way to get him to break the league rules. Now we are gonna lose draft picks.

I've heard reports of both guys being link to Cincy. Then the projection of having Sewell. But that sounds more like a fantasy as the Jets and Charger should also be in Linsey.

I’ll believe it when I see it. The Bengals front office is a total joke. It pretty much consists of Mike Brown, Mike Browns daughter, and Mike Browns son-in-law. Agents don’t like to do business with the Bengals because they don’t trust them.

Thuney to me would be a bad signing. Is he a quality, reliable, starting guard? Sure. Is he a difference maker? Not at all.

The Pats have cap space. Why aren’t they bringing him back if he’s such a big piece?

This is free agency. Last year by end of the 48 hours all big name FA’s were committed

Yup.  Last year, by the time FA officially "started", it was practically finished.

The vast majority of the top guys will have deals agreed today or tomorrow, before FA actually opens.

It is interesting that multiple sites have different times. Whichever time it is I’m ready!

Thuney or Linsley is a must get. If somehow we landed both of them this OL would be top notch

And then draft

Here’s to hoping they can land a guy like thuney. But what people seem to forget is the player has a say too.  Maybe thuney doesn’t want to play for the jets? It’s not like they’re the only team wanting him.  And, as we’ve seen, players will use the jets to jack up the offers from other teams.  So we’ll see. It’s pretty clear the interior of the oline needs to be upgraded.

They’re like the low rent version of the Johnsons

That’s the thing about free agency and the Watson ball washers saying it’s ok to trade a half dozen first round picks for him because we have $80 million in cap room

There’s no guarantee even if we offer top dollar to UFAs that they will come here.  We have been burned before by free agents

What time does legal tampering (aka when we can start to hear about deals) actually begin?

and more importantly, what time do we all start freaking out that we haven't signed anybody? The above, plus 30 minutes?

As soon as a team signs anybody and it's  not the Jets.

They're not signing both. I think I'd prefer Linsley, because I think by having him at center and moving McGovern to guard they improve two positions on the OL (probably for less money). It's gonna be interesting to see if JD has the stomach to submit the top bids for the top guys. Unlike Mac or Tanny, that doesn't seem to be his go-to move.

I'd like to hear about WRs they're talking to, too. That's an even bigger need, imho.

He’s not a difference maker? Seriously?

When our guards combined to allow 12 pressures against Aaron Donald do you think it may have made a difference to Sam? What if we had a guard that barely allowed any pressure and never took a penalty?

Rewatch all our games last year and take not of all the pressure allowed by the guards/center and tell me it didn’t make a difference in the game plan.

Agreed.  Even though Linsley will be 30 in July, I’d prefer having the better, more experienced center than guard, especially if we are drafting a rookie QB.

Agreed, also you’re covering 2 birds with 1 stone but signing Linsley + moving McGovern to guard.

Still wouldn’t hate signing Thuney though...Linsley would just be more prudent.

Better potential guard options than center at 23 and 34 too. Vera-Tucker + Linsley + McGovern may be a better IOL combo than one involving Thuney and a rookie center?

Would still love Thuney though, and would still draft a center.

Agreed.   I’d rather avoid having a rookie center/QB combo.   If we’re going rookie QB, investing in Lindsley is the much better move.

Pats looking to screw the Jets over again like last year with a last minute Thuney deal

Patriots have over $60M in cap space, if they want Thuney they’ll have Thuney.   They traded Cannon away and brought back Trent Brown.   I can see them keeping Thuney.

Timing of this is far too suspect. Most likely this was put out there by his agent to ramp up other teams offers.

The top tier guys will be signed as you said, but I think this year we will see a lot more available guys after the tampering period because of the $182mn cap.  There are 2 more waves of potential cuts that will likely be more active than in previous years:  post June cuts (each team allowed up to 2 player on this list) for cap reasons and also more guys getting cut to fit the new guys signed during the tampering period under the cap.

Thuney probably isn’t happy about getting tagged and then little negotiating until the eve of free agency.  If I were him I’d want to test the market.  His agent knows he’s a hot commodity plus going back to the Pats to play with  Cam isn’t as attractive as it used to be where you were going back and playing with Brady.

The pats brought cam back for QB. It is safe to say they are lost without brady.
