Smizzy
I am just getting out of class but I got a call and I am trying to get the right # down (22 or 29) but Jetstv is now reporting that John Abraham is being dealt to Denver. Video to come! The Sowell train also told us his boy was going to be cut 4 days prior to it happening. Im going to post this for now.
Latinlawyer
I hope its the 22nd pick..although getting either is not bad... LL Who should we draft at 22?

JonEJet
If we get 29 it's a **** deal If that is the case...I would hope we get a future 2nd or 3rd Otherwise trading a PB DE in his prime for a late, late 1st sucks!!
Shadetree
That means Mario williams @ 4, no? I think Abe is worth more than the 22nd or 29th pick, but another 1st round pick is always nice.

Sperm Edwards
Some people still think it's just as simple as whether a team (us OR the trading partner) values Abraham or a crap-shoot on a draftee. The choice is: John Abraham & a long-term deal with $20M up front & commit the team to a 4-3 defense for the next 3-4 years (since he's lousy & therefore wasted at OLB) or late first-round draft pick. Very low cost with very good upside, but with a potential bust-factor Teams in cap hell who are not contenders this year, whose HC is desirous of switching to a 3-4 defense, choose the latter not the former. If Abraham was currently under a reasonable contract (like his rookie deal) this would not have even come up.
LockeJET
29 is a crap deal for us, even 22 without a 3 is not great kearse was traded for a 2...How could Abe be worth more??Abe doesnt have a great history of playing full seasons and has some commitment issues..Teams arent gona trade alot for the guy then turn around and give him a bloackbuster deal..Gettting a 1st for him is not bad MB.. Xcel2NuFX
I think this is a great trade for us. We can either trade both 1st's to move up for Leinart or we use the 4th for D'brick or Cutler and then use the 22nd or whatever for a WR maybe Chad Jackson
faba
To get a first rounder for Abe is good IMO-this creates the possibility of picking Williams at
Rob D
You can't judge the trade value of John Abraham based solely on his talent level. If you also factor in that he would cost us $8.3m against the salary cap, I would gladly take a late first round pick for him.
Maxman
Just kind of ironic that Abe is draft at 14, establishes himself as a Pro Bowler and is then traded for less than what he was drafted for.

The mere hint of again trading two 1st-rounders to move up in the draft for another unproven college talent is worse than the serious suggestion of any incest+defication combo in The Aristocrats. Not all censorship is bad in my eyes. Do what's right.

Barton
Smizzy, I hope this is right. And I agree with you on Nick Mangold at 29, if we get that pick. But I also believe in BAP too, so depending on who else would still be there at 29 I could pass on Mangold, because he could be there at 35. Depending on what we do in free agency, I wouldnt mind Gabe Watson (among others) at 29.

Ricky Williams also had the whole suspension thing that dropped his stock. Isn't it odd though? I didn't say they didn't get a fair deal or anything like that. Just odd that he is drafted does as well as anyone could have hoped and you get less for him in return. I realize money and the cap are the reasons behind this. Xcel2NuFX
Just kind of ironic that Abe is draft at 14, establishes himself as a Pro Bowler and is then traded for less than what he was drafted for. Yeah but you can't look at that. Look trades happen because the team a player is currently on either doesn't want the player or the player is unhappy where they are. Abe has already said he wont play for the Jets this year he is obviously getting traded and unless your dillusional I don't think anybody here realistically thinks we are going to get a top 10 pick straight up for a disgruntled alcoholic who only plays 16 games and doesn't drink his ass off when he thinks hes gonna get paid. We all know JA is soft and isn't a team player. We need to rebuild obviously and get rid of the excess baggage the old Jets are still dragging along. Personally I think getting a late 1st round pick is a decent trade. That said could we do better? Possibly but there is no given that we are going to find a better deal between now and training camp, and even if we did I don't think it would be that much better anyway. Hindsight is 20/20 and I would bet you if we look back at this years draft 3 or 4 years from now we will realize what we could have had with the 22nd or 29th pick in this draft and say to ourselves damn that trade would have been good if we got this guy. If we draft the right players this trade could be a great thing for the jets.

He might be our QB in 2006, but he is not the future. No point in building a team around his game. Not saying Brick wouldnt be a great pick regardless of the QB, but cmon, vernon davis? Jesus christ, has this team not f###ed up the draft with the tight end position enuff already? Chad can go screw too.

You haven't seen all the talent that will be released by midnight yet. So next year, with 3 new starters (Two proven vets & 1 a rookie first-rounder), remember this thread when Abe is on the sidelines for 4-5 regular-season games & all playoff games next year for Denver. Please, at that time, do remind us again how stupid this was.
