He better not be going anywhere any time soon. Agreed... but if things go the way they could, he will have drafted 2 of the biggest busts in our history with Becton and Zach. But yes, firing him would be a mistake.

Retires? Prefers LV over NY" There is no "etc" involved in that question that you inferred to "Douglas needing to convince FA's". Oh. You want a semantics argument. I get it now. Kindly piss off. 1

Green Ghost
Theres a reason so many of us are frustrated with Douglas. From back when Macc was here, we were saying this team needs to find a QB and fix the OL when JD came aboard he tore the team down to the studs, and the plan was to get Lawrence. Incredibly we screwed that up after an 0-11 start (even though a 2 win season usually gets the #1 pick, Jax out tanked us). Douglas still took what we all felt were the two cornerstone positions a QB and a LT. Both have been busts. Nobody wants him to be fired, we want him to put a winning team on the field. An OROY and DROY at WR and CB are great, but without a QB and competent OL they don’t really change the fortune of a team much. After a terrific draft he’s unlikely to ever have again (4 top 32 picks) we had a 7-10 season, losing our last 6 games. It’s hard to feel great after that, and now here we are still hoping to find a stop gap QB, which feels a lot like when we brought Fitz here a few years back. TLDR we have some talent on this team, but we still need to fix the same things we’ve been trying to fix for 6-7 years now and we still can’t sniff the playoffs. That has to change.
JETS SB
If we surveyed Jets fans at the time, 90%+ would have said that we had to draft a QB with the #2 pick in 2021. And the consensus pick was Wilson then Fields. Gotta love it that JD is being destroyed for doing what everyone wanted him to do. Yes, Wilson is a bust, but if he didn’t draft Wilson and he drafted someone else, and we didn’t make the playoffs in 2021 or 2022, he would be destroyed as well. His 2022 draft was up there as the best drafts in Jets history. Would love to know who all of you expert GMs would like to hire if JD is fired and what you are expecting from this person. Getting a QB is obvious, but JD drafted the consensus QB in both of his picks. Not like he took a guy nobody wanted or rated in that spot. 1

Fair enough, but I think that the etc in my original response is/was adequate. I specifically put it in to address the unique AR situation, in which he basically controls his own fate. If JD wants to be an effective GM he needs to be able to sell FAs ETC on coming to the NYJ.

I understand all of this, but JD has very little influence upon Rodgers <wink, wink>. Unless GB gives permission to talk to him (meaning that they have a basis of a deal in place), the Jets would get slapped pretty hard by the league. And then Douglas WOULD need to be fired. This is all under the assumption that GB is amenable to trading him. There's another guy that woulda got his guy...?

I shouldn’t have to tell you this, but doing what the fans want you to do is not how being a successful GM works. Furthermore, just for the sake of putting this silly idea to rest, there was a very vocal group of fans, both here, in the wild, etc., who wanted to sign a veteran QB, trade the 2nd overall pick to SF or ATL for a kings ransom, and let things fall where they may, because they didn’t love the QBs not named Lawrence. Wilson is a bust. If JD had simply done the above, gotten an excellent haul, and saw things unfold the way that they have so far, absolutely nobody would be killing him. He would have made, as we know now, the best possible choice for the franchise. 1

There was a “very vocal” amount of Jets fans that said we were stupid to draft a CB with the 4th overall pick. Just sayin. Good luck with your next GM. In fact, the majority of this fanbase was concerned that Sauce would not be available, as Houston wanted a CB. Love how you have zero answers for the rest of what has already been said though.
