Can someone help me out here.

Where are all these cuts we were supposed to see today around 4pm? Am I missing something?

The same teams that were way over the cap are still way over the cap.

I think it’s clear now that the whole “the teams that saved money for this year will make out like bandits” idea was much ado about nothing.  Was there a massive “bloodbath” of big-name players being cut?  Are players having to sign bargain contracts, because the money wasn’t there for them?  Has this first few days of the free agency period been substantially different than any other year?

What seems to have happened is that teams just massively restructured contracts to push commitments from this year into future years, and the news of upcoming new TV deals just made it easier, even for the teams in the worst trouble.

Maybe the impact will really show up in the 2nd and 3rd waves of free agency, and mid-level players will need to sign lower contracts (probably one-year deals) and there will be bargains to be found.  This seems to be Joe Douglas’s preferred sweet spot anyway, so he’s probably hoping to take advantage.

For those of us who believed the hype of a “massive reorganization of the league’s talent” (or just hoped for it to be true), though, it’s time to move on.

This is no different then when we had Tanny and he converted all the "old has beens" base salary into a signing bonuses to make more cap. Regardless it catches up to a team at some point. Look at the Saints.

Teams can almost always find ways to save lots of cap each year.

The people in glee over FA and our big cap advantage simply have not paid attention to this league over the years.

If you’re looking at over the cap, it’s delayed. Teams got under the cap by restructuring contracts etc. Once all the data becomes available, you’ll see it on the cap websites. These cap websites are great, but they’re not real time.

The Eagles, Bears, Saints and Rams announced they were under the cap.

Salary cap is a farce. Look at Tampa. Look at the Patriots. It’s all pomp.
Eventually like a child that fails to learn the value of money.. restructuring will catchup with the team that fabricates space this way.

The salary cap is easily manipulated, I’m not sure why people get so geeked up over having so much of it.   It may be a good thing if you were actually a desirable place to play, but for the Jets it’s yet another year of begging players to come here.

So what?  Tampa already has one Super Bowl to show for it and will be a legit contender again this year.  When it come time to purge, then you take a rebuild year and take you’re medicine.  What has been the benefit of having so many years with tons of cap space for the Jets?

So?  Still doesn’t change the fact that they won a Super Bowl and will contend this year.

Again, what has been so great about having all this cap space for so many seasons for the Jets?
