I personally would be very happy if SF does not pick Fields. Last thing we need as Jet Fans is comparing Fields vs Wilson Rest of our lives with Fields playing in the QB heaven in SF.

Trust me I like Fields a-lot. But Shanahan passing on him while knowing him forever is significant. In my mind Fields is well above Lance and Mac. If SF does indeed pass on him well clearly I am wrong.

I’d rather draft Ben Mason the Michigan FB in the 6th rd .

nobody drafts FBs  much anymore and with a 6’3 256 lb FB with pretty good speed there, I think Jets can get him  and not hve to use a high pick for an H- Back type.

he was signed by Mich as a Linebacker.  He was a top HS athlete, 4 stars and they were loaded at ILB so they moved him to FB to get him on the field.

2021 NFL Draft Sleeper: Ben Mason, FB, Michigan

Multi-purpose weapon Ben Mason of Michigan is an under-the-radar prospect getting rave reviews. The sometimes fullback, sometimes H-back, sometimes tight end is another player who can squeeze every ounce of talent from his body. He’s a terrific blocker and a sensational pass catcher out of the backfield. Mason also does a solid job carrying the ball when called upon.

These are skills Mason showed off during his career at Michigan and, more importantly, duplicated on a grander scale during Senior Bowl practices. Scouts didn’t grade Mason coming into the season, but he’s now a lock Day 3 selection.

Which teams are looking at Mason?

Many teams are, but keep this in mind: Mason is drawing a lot of comparisons to Kyle Juszczyk, the nine-year veteran out of Harvard and five-time Pro Bowl selection who recently signed a five-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers.

More and more people tell me Mason is a natural fit for the New York Jets. They will be running an offense similar to the one used in San Francisco. Expectations are that Gang Green looks Mason’s way in the middle of Day 3.

Great point.  I just don't want the Pats to pick Fields.  Honestly, because I want to cheer for him to do well...

I think the 49ers have been sold on Mac Jones since the moment they made the trade and the rest is just noise and 49ers fans twisting themselves in knots refusing to believe they gave up 3 1s for what they perceive as Tua's backup. They could be wrong and Shanahan knows what he's doing, but we'll have to see.

I think they're going to move up or stay back. Hard to say without knowing what happens in the top 15

There's a lot of different scenarios that can play out. I think move up from 23 and down from 34 is one they'll be prepared to engage in. I think they can stay at all 3, especially if guys with round 1 grades fall to each pick.

Point was everyone was so focused on the QB decision

Just from a personal perspective, I've kind of seen him as a Jets target for a while now too. I obviously didn't expect us to be so bad, but when I was looking at the 2021 class last summer I kind of saw him and Devonta Smith as 2 of our 1st round options. He checks all the boxes this administration looks for and I couldn't help but see the similarities between he and Dallas Goedert on tape

Firstly, I don't think either will start this year at RT, and may not ever. All depends on how Fant progresses. Secondly, every team has a different perspective on arm length. There are plenty of great tackles past and present who have shorter than 33.5" arms. 32.125" is a different story. I think AVT is going to be a G, and that begs questioning how much the Jets think of him as a G/whether they would move up for a guy who is a G-only player. However, Jenkins is very much a G/T player who has the length and the athleticism to play RT, but projects as a strong option at RG as well.

Jenkins is my top choice due to his true inside/out versatility.  His only demerit is he is already 23 years old and therefore you can't expect him to greatly improve however his current play is fine enough for me.  He's got a nasty demeanor and good movement skills.

Would seem like a natural Plan B if they aren’t able to land Tommy Tremble.

As far as round 1, I see a lot of buzz this morning about round 1 pass rusher. Coaching staff definitely wants one, organization wants to further build up that unit, but I don’t think they’re necessarily targeting one on Thursday. I think Joe ideally wants to land an OL and reevaluate day 2. If the right pass rusher is there I would think they alter those plans, as I think they would if the OL targets dry up.

The coaches haven’t consistently gotten what they want this offseason, but that’s part of what they signed up for... Joe’s going to select players that fit what the coaches scheme’s require, but he’s not necessarily going to bend and take the specific players they want. That will happen more so later day 2, and on day 3.

Wondering what your thoughts are about the RBs in the draft.  Conventional wisdom would say we wait til later in the draft, but boy, our RB group is very thin right now.  I see a window in late round 1 or early round 2, based on top tackles and CBs being gone by then (and a sweet spot for o-line in round 3).  All comes down to grades they have on Harris, Etienne, and Javonte Williams.  The 23rd pick is a luxury pick this year for them, and a serious playmaker could be a rookie QB's best friend right now.  In that light, you have an order like:

Rd 1: QB and RB

Rd 2: O-line vs. edge, maybe CB

Rd 3: O-line, edge, CB

Round 4 and on: WR, TE LB, S/CB, special teams

I still see edge or LB as the other obvious choice in Round 1 if they wait for Rd 3 or 4 for RB.

Better trying to supplement the running game early by adding blockers at other positions (TE, FB) and on the offensive line than adding a back IMO.

Jets don’t have high end talent but a lot of scheme fits who we could easily be talking about as higher end talent next year. Coleman, Johnson, and Adams all fit and one of the latter two could certainly break out, Perine will be on the roster, and they’re probably carrying a fullback. Coleman won’t play specials and an early draft pick probably won’t either and I don’t know if you want 2/3 of your backs not playing special teams.

And the outside zone scheme always finds guys late. Guys like Hubbard, Nwangwu, or Patterson will be there day three and could surprise.

Watch the Pats snag Fields...  Their offense and Cam as a mentor are perfect for him.

And Fields would get to sit for at least a year and learn before being expected to play/produce.

Trading up for Fields would be a massive coup by the Pats IMO.

Maybe the only thing that would piss me off on Thursday is if Joe Douglas takes a RB. This scenario, where a RB and defender is a real possibility before round three, with no OL, would just be ugly.

Defensive tackle? Safety?

Those are the big three for me. Off ball linebacker would be a bummer too.

There’s other weird stuff too like...probably not a tight end worth pick 23z

I don't see DT or Safety being an option. I see RB as a slight option, probably more because it gets thrown around in here so often. If he went Edge or CB, I'd be okay. WR would be exciting. OL is what I expect. RB would just be frustrating.

I honestly haven't been very tapped in this past week- was away on business and just busier than have been in a long time (a blessing, not a complaint lol). I read about the medical stuff but without knowing what exactly it's hard to say. Could result in him falling to the end of Round 2, maybe even round 3, depending what it is

Unacceptable!! You need to be tapped in all the way through the draft.    Give me you the phone number of your boss.  JN will bombard him with messages. ?

I agree on DT but actually think safety is about as likely as RB. Moehrig fits right in value wise, it’s important in the scheme, they’ve got a hole at the position after this year, room on the roster, and I’m not sure Joyner is a must start guy so it’s a possible year one role.

On the flip side I’m really not sure I see Douglas rolling with a round one RB in a ZBS who likely (along with Coleman) won’t be playing special teams. Feels like a Mike Tannenbaum I’ll figure it out later because I don’t know how to construct an actual football team but this is fun and flashy move.

I am worried about the RB being billed as support for the QB but man I can’t make sense of it.

Really don’t think we can have any feel for what they’re doing. Feel like there’s a pocket of 6-8 guys they’re hoping slide at 3-4 different positions, a few they’d move up for in that group if the tier starts to fall apart, and if they’re all gone they’ll move down.

Yep. 100% with you on this.

Etienne and/or Najee are luxury picks for a team as piss poor as ours.

I'd only start considering RB in late round 3, and ONLY IF we manage to bag a QB, at least 1 OL, and either a CB, WR or an EDGE before we pick RB. Frankly, even as I type this I hate the idea. Too many holes, we have a stable RB group - add to it from round 4 on, perhaps.

Exactly why it's smart for Joe Douglas to get 2022 picks for Sam Darnold

Yea, this is a very under-reported point. Instead of ESPN acting like dopes about QBs, they should be educated viewers on this level of adversity and how it'll impact the draft strategies of their teams.

Per Tony Pauline.

https://www.profootballnetwork.com/2021-nfl-draft-rumors-buzz-draft-week/

How many wide receivers will come off the board in Round 1 — and who is the sleeper first-round WR?

(12:15 PM ET) As was the case one year ago, it’s a very strong receiver draft in 2021. A year ago, six receivers were selected in the first round. And as of right now, several teams have six receivers with first-round grades. But having a first-round grade does not necessarily mean a player will land in the top 32 selections.

So who are the six receivers graded as potential top-32 choices? The familiar names at the top include Ja’Marr Chase, DeVonta Smith, Jaylen Waddle, Rashod Bateman, and Kadarius Toney. The sleeper who could end up in the first round is Elijah Moore of Mississippi, as some teams even project him into the late teens/early twenties. Moore comes off a sensational season, which he capped off by timing in the low-to-mid 4.3s during his pro day workout.

What positions are the Jets targeting on the first two days of the NFL Draft?

(10:45 AM ET) It will come as a surprise to no one, but the New York Jets will look to address the cornerback and receiver positions early in the draft. From what’s coming out of Florham Park, the feeling is the Jets won’t use their second first-round pick on a cornerback, but rather wait until Day 2
