Dax Milne - WR (BYU) - Worth a 7th Round Pick if we Draft Wilson?

Recommended Posts

Currently ranked in the 220'ish area in terms of overall prospects.

Was Wilson's #1 guy in 2020.  Would appear to be small (6'1" 190 pounds) for the NFL game except perhaps as a slot guy.

Would you consider throwing a 7th rounder at him, given how low the % is at that point, and that he could help bring Wilson along?

---------------

Dax Milne

WR BYU

Positives

Dependable receiver coming off a sensational campaign. Displays great awareness, uses the sidelines well, and battles to come away with the reception. Tracks the ball in the air, displays outstanding eye/hand coordination, and consistently makes the reception away from his frame. Comes back to the ball, uses his hands to separate from defenders, and displays great short-area quickness. Adjusts to the errant throw and nicely makes the reception in stride. Keeps the play in bounds and follows blocks after the catch. Quickly gets in and out of breaks and is a sharp route runner.

Negatives

Lazily comes off the line of scrimmage. Unnecessarily lets the pass get inside him on occasion. Plays to one speed and lacks a deep burst.

Analysis

After two marginally productive seasons, Milne had a breakout campaign last year and was tough for opponents to stop. He comes with average size and speed, but his reliability and sense of what's happening on the field could help Milne grab hold of a roster spot as a fifth receiver.

Either that or UDFA.  Who knows, he could surprise.

It's such a low impact/low risk pick, I almost always say "why not?" when we're drafting a QB.

If nothing else, it gives the QB a wubbie, a comfort with at least one guy in the WR room, and that WR can help the other WR's learn about the QB as well, how it is to catch hundreds of his passes, what to look for, what to expect, etc.

I watched 5 or so BYU games and after Wilson, he was the player who jumped out at me the most.

Catches just about everything thrown his way and is sneaky fast/quick.

I would definitely take a chance on him before round 7 (maybe 5-6) regardless of what his measurables say.

Is he the guy that dropped 3-4 balls during the Pro Day?

Couldn't tell you, didn't watch his Pro Day.  What guys do in pre-rehearsed friendly-field in shorts isn't huge to me, good or bad, I prefer to look at their full college resume instead when making evals.  Even the combine, I think, is weighted far too much IMO.

50 college games tells you who a guy is.  Not 50 seconds at a workout.

On the one hand, sure, why not. UDFA or 7th Rd. On the other hand, there will be other WRs available in the 7th Rd. or as UDFAs who may not have played with Wilson but have higher upside. I'd rather roll the dice on someone like that. Odds are Milne doesn't even make the roster.

Joe Douglas will be judged on whether or not he drafts Dax Milne.

Upside is usually the QB and wide receivers each have an attractive young lady the camera pans to watching the game. These two can have possibly up to ten between them if their polygamy game is strong. .

I don't think the Jets have a 7th round draft pick this year!  lol
