where do jets rank among NFL’s WORST-drafting teams of past decade ? ? ?

One big reason why the Jets haven’t reached the playoffs since 2010 is that they’ve mostly drafted poorly. It’s really that simple. So where do they rank among the NFL’s worst-drafting teams from 2010-20? Pro Football Focus attempted to answer that question, while focusing only on first-round picks. The top-ranked teams at making first-round picks over that stretch — Texans, Panthers, Bills, Ravens, and Colts. The bottom five — Bears, Jaguars, Seahawks, Lions, and Raiders (last).

So the Jets aren’t in the bottom five.

They’re close, though. One spot outside the bottom five, in fact, at No. 27. PFF has the 49ers, Dolphins, Cardinals, Washington, and Jets as the “top-ranked” teams in its bottom 10.The Jets made some really bad first-round picks from 2010-20: Kyle Wilson, Quinton Coples, Dee Milliner, Calvin Pryor, and Darron Lee.

What about the others ? Well, it’s a mixed bag.

Muhammad Wilkerson had a couple good years, and then flamed out after the Jets gave him a lucrative contract.Sheldon Richardson remains a fairly productive starter, with the Browns, but has made just one Pro Bowl — and the Jets traded him away after four seasons.Leonard Williams finally turned into a dominant pass rusher — last year with the Giants, after the Jets traded him away.

The Jets’ 2017 first-round pick, Jamal Adams, was traded to Seattle last year, despite being a promising talent. In 2018, of course, the Jets drafted Sam Darnold, who was just traded to Carolina, after three unproductive seasons. The trade-up move to get Darnold proved to be a failure. So far, the past two first-round picks — Quinnen Williams and Mekhi Becton — appear to have bright futures.Bottom line: It’s been a fairly lean stretch of first-rounders for the Jets, but maybe things are finally starting to turn around with Quinnen Williams and Becton.

Really not sure their grading system here. How are the Jets not last? This isn't about hitting on first or second round picks. This is about the entire draft. Jets have zero depth and talent on the roster because barely any mid to late round pick hit or is even in the league. Even our early round picks that hit aren't on the team anymore. That should also count as a negative.

Jets have three years worth of picks over these next two drafts.  21 in total.

No doubt JD has to hit on most of them...if Jets are going to crawl out of the bottom of the league and be a perennial playoff team.  Protecting the new rookie QB and providing him with more weapons is a must.  Use some picks in trades too.

Just get it one JD!

You can also put Mike Tannenbaum with the likes of Idzik and Maccagnan. He is also the reason why the Jets drafting has been horrible. Remember he drafted Wilson, Coples, Pryor and Millner

Kind of surprised we are not last but I just took a quick peak at the Bears drafts over the last 10 years. They’re worse. Surprisingly. They’ve hit on a 4th round safety and a day 2 RB. There maybe another player or two in there that I missed but not much.

But 6th worse is the reason we suck. And we don’t even the sign the guys we actually hit on.

The Coples pick still haunts me with M Ingram and C Jones there for the taking.

Blame Tannenbaum for letting Rex Ryan decide for him. Rex Ryan had a huge influence on Tannenbaum in drafting a lot of players and reason why the team has no talent, foundation or identity.

We took a lot of safe picks at non-premium positions who didn’t bust according to PFF’s criteria. It’s worse than it appears.

I doubt they take into account where in R1 you pick.  When you are picking top 6 constantly and get non-impact starters that could be worse than a team picking a bust in the late 20s.

Pryor and Millner were Idzik. Tannenbaum did a bad job after the lockout in  2011  and 2012.

Can you believe it's been almost a decade since Mr. Hill scored a TD for us...

It's the Jets overall drafting futility that has ruined this team coupled with Mike Macagnan's sheer enthusiasm to cut or get rid of whatever talent we did have. There was literally NOTHING he did well....

I'm still marveling at the fact that Macagnan was able to become a GM in the NFL when he thought that OL doesn't matter.  He might deny that but actions speak louder than words.

Yes, unfortunately it’s something most of us will never forget.

As I've said before in these threads, awful drafting but also a total lack of knowing priority positions.

At least idzik had a clue in this reagard though is drafting was awful.

Mccagnan drafted bad but worse he had no concept of positional value.

And even worse he repeated the exact same errors he was part of in Houston.

thats because we were still riding the Sanchez high of 2009, 2010. then it took one more year to realize we had to move on and drafted Geno

we got to stop that sh*t where we have to give QBs 4-5 years and pass on good ones. like many wanted to do with Darnold.

i dont know anything about Wilson. but if hes the pick and he sucks then we need to move on fast. not wait 4-5 years.

otherwise we will be back here in 2026 saying the same thing. we pass on that great QB in 2023 and drafted a WR who sucked just because it was too soon to give up on the QB

fortune favors the bold

Maccagnan.... a guy who bookended his career at the Jets with DTs at #6 and #3.  A guy who took two Safeties in a row when he could have had Patrick Mahomes and Dalvin Cook, a guy who was more generous than the Federal Reserve in helicoptering money into the hands of citizens like Trumaine Johnson, CJ Mosley and Le'Veon Bell.  A man who couldn't spell Offensive Line.  It's a miracle the Jets still exist as a franchise.

In 2-3 years you will be saying the same thing about JD
