Why are draft “experts” so sensitive about criticism towards Fields?

Recommended Posts

It’s one thing to disagree on a player but these draft guys seem to take it as a personal attack on them when somebody doesn’t have Fields that high.

Then you have the Orlovsky thing where people are making it seem like the rumor about Fields work ethic is the worst crime against humanity.

There have been rumors about top Qb’s and players forever. Marino slipped because of drug rumors. This isn’t a new thing. Sometimes there true sometimes a gm is just trying to get a player to slip to him.

Why do these draft guys take it so personally? Is their ego in evaluating players so big that they can’t handle somebody disagreeing with them?

Is it something else?

Up until like January Fields was at worst the presumptive #2 and possible #1 pick.

That was their narrative.

The Wilson once people starting really looking at him shot up the draft boards and replaced Wilson. But Fields is also dropping.

For some reason instead of doing any research they are just getting angry. They cannot get past Fields performance against Clemson and his athleticism to even consider that Wilson might be a better overall prospect.

It doesn't help when knowledgeable football guys like Weis act like this too.

Chris Simms said he’s worried about his mechanics and put him as QB4

Orlovsky said a source questioned his work ethic.

Thats prompted NFL draft experts to launch personal attacks on these people.

Simms had him #5. Wilson, Lawrence, Jones and Mond ahead of him respectively.

Mechanics isn’t a criticism. That’s just football talk. Orlovsky floated out what he hard then walked it back basically.

What was galling about Orlovsky's criticism is that it flew in the face of everything that had been said about Fields for years. It just so happens they were negative stereotypes that have in the past been associated with black quarterbacks - Physically great, low work ethic- Which was clearly nonsense. And I've been as big a critic of Fields as anyone but that is the opposite of who he is. It shows how much of a hack Orlovsky is that despite the access he has he slanders a player's character despite years of evidence to the contrary. He deserved all the sh*t he got and more. A total hack.

because he is black, and in todays world people are very sensitive to anything and everything that can be interpreted as racial. as as far as the media goes, go to twitter...its all about click bait, racial and otherwise...

Pretty much

Watch Trey Lance go Top 5 and Justin Fields go somewhere in the teens.

And plenty of dipsh*ts will still pull the race card as to why Fields dropped.

The same reason Darnold gets/got defended for so long.  The same reason people pretended Quinnen Williams wasn't good for as long as possible.  Tbe same reason each of us have a former player or coach we will defend to the death even though they probably don't deserve it.

People don't like to be wrong.  Rather than admit they were wrong, they get mad at people presenting information that could make them look wrong.

I do it.  We all do it.  Some more than others.
