Jets Re-Sign TE Daniel Brown

Guess they must really value his contributions on specials, because he adds little to the TE corps.

I wonder if he will even make the team.  Could be nothing more than a hedge in case the board doesn's fall our way next week and we don't add a TE who can contribute in '21.

Exactly the type of signing that should be reported here by jetsrule. Dude will be fighting for a roster spot.

Though their skill sets are different this will hasten Griffen's good-bye--can't believe he's still here.

Brown as ST guy and fourth tight end>>>> than whatever Griffen has to offer at his crazy price tag (we get over 3 million s off next year's cap too by cutting him (in addition to 1.7 mill savings this year).

Per Cimini

The Jets have re-signed TE Daniel Brown. Caught two passes in 2020. Only 28 offensive snaps; played a team-high 334 snaps on special teams. #Jets

OBVIOUSLY HE IS VALUED FOR HIS PLAY ON SPECIAL TEAMS.

Griffin was coming off an ACL that he tore late in 2019. I think they wait to see what he looks like in camp before making a decision on him. If he looks like his pre-injury self he’s probably  worth the $3 mil a year

It's a long-shot that RG stays (Griffen himself has voiced doubt about his post-surgery abilities), but that's a fair comment. Long shot or not, no pressure to act now. Good point.

I am amazed how some guys linger on the roster for years without any apparent benefit to the team.

Brown wasn't a bad blocker and caught a pass here and there. They may be planning to drop Griffin since he had been struggling and keep Brown and a likely TE from the draft, but probably all the TEs(minus Wesco who probably becomes the FB in this Offense) would need some evaluation in practice especially with the #2 pick QB to see if their struggles was more to do with last year's team/coaches then that player actually fitting in with the new regime/scheme/QB.

When did last have decent Tight End Mickey Shuler?

Actually Shuler would have been called a bust by the JN board of today.. In his first 3 years he had 49 catches 518 yds and 8 td's. In 2 years Herndon was hurt 1 year of his first 3 he had 70 catches 789 yds and 7 td's..
