Doggin94it
So it turns out Jenkins would have been sitting there for the Jets at 23 had they not traded up for Vera Tucker. Of course, they didn't know that at the time, and other than NE, pretty much every team between 14 and 22 could have taken an OL, so moving up to get their guy was justifiable either way. (And the Raiders did take one, just ... a surprising one). But I wonder if, in hindsight, the Jets wish they'd stood pat. If it were me, and I could deal Vera Tucker right now for Jenkins and 2 thirds? I'd probably do it. But what the hell do I know? How about you? (Note - this isn't "was it a smart trade because we didn't know". It's which side of that hypothetical - AVT and 145 or Jenkins, 66, and 86 - would you take)?
Popular Post Tranquilo
AVT is better, don’t care about two lottery 3rd rounders
Popular Post slimjasi
It's a fair question. My take is that we desperately needed a guard (arguably the weakest position on the team last year - right up there with QB) and we got the best guard prospect in the draft. I'm ok paying a premium to make that happen.

SackExchangeNYJ
Fair question, but Douglas loved AVT as a guard, and felt it was worth it.
KINGDIRK
How do we know if Darrisaw was a fit for La Fluers offense? Obviously AVT is. This stuff doesn’t happen in a vacuum.
Jets723
We probably are trading down at 34 so whatever we had to give up to get the better player we will recoup
CTJetsFan
AVT and 145. We may end up trading down from 34 to get back a 3rd rounder. If we do, then we will have given up no picks (just swapping a few positions) to get AVT. 2
Patriot Killa
This is worded to where the latter sounds sweeter because there’s more involved in compensation. I think Vera-Tucker is much better than Jenkins, more polished, and a safe rookie plug & play starter. The gap is big enough to justify the move imo. I’m extremely happy JD went up and got who he wanted. We knew he had no choice but to attack OL early because of how FA shaped out and he did it aggressively.
Jimmy 2 Times
Ask me again after our next pick. If we get Creed or Jenkins then I'm stoked. 3
Icer
I would have been happy with either outcome probably. Since JD really liked AVT enough to jump up and grab him rather than rolling the dice on waiting for Jenkins/3rd rounders then I'll hope he's a slam dunk pick. Vader
We’ll find out from JD in the presser. Looked stoked about this pick.

Id have preferred Darrisaw and staying put at 23. I was willing to come up for one of the top WRs. Hope the Tucker trade up is everything the Jets expect it to be. nickfoshizal
Teven Jenkins and a trade up for Creed Humphrey wouldve been great. Either way AVT is a great fit inside, just wish I wouldn’t have to see Fant protecting Wilson to start the year. We’ll see who falls to 34. chirorob
Probably the extra pics. But there was no way to know, and I love a stud guard next to our young left tackle.
mrcoops
AVT is the better player, and the better pick. I like Jenkins a lot, but AVT looks like he is custom made for the Jets' scheme as a LG. Jenkins can be a very good RG or good RT. AVT has the potential to be an elite LG. JD saw his guy, and went and got him.
TheClashFan
Yeah, I didn't think Jenkins would last to 23. Maybe JD just really liked AVT that much. Tough call, but JD did not have the benefit of hindsight that we have now...
kdels62
The same reason why I traded up for Slater in the mock draft is why JD traded up for AVT. If you really believe a guy is a tier above, then you acquire him especially at the cost of less secure picks. JD had AVT really high on his board so it is worth it. slimjasi
If Jenkins and Humprhey are both sitting there headed into round 2, this gets very interesting because I would be tempted to take another OL and suddenly have a borderline strong offensive line
Shockwave
With Jenkins still available this was a no brainer. Jenkins would have been a reach at 23.

How the hell could this first day have gone any better? Tonight just solidified to me that Joe Douglas, a former OL with a 15 year apprenticeship under Ozzie Newsome and 3 rings on his fingers is, in fact...the truth. And Robert Saleh only continues to impress... We’re in good hands, fellas. Stop crying and look on the bright side for a change. This time, it’s genuinely warranted. 4 1
