Report: Jets receiving a lot of interest for pick 34

We’d have to almost completely drop out of the 2nd round to make that happen.

I don’t want to move back more than 10-12 spots at the most.

It depends on the team & the player... if the team wants the player enough they'll have to pay JD's price... supply & demand. 😉

unless we get blown away we should just stay put and be one of those teams that takes what we thought was a first-rounder

JD about to pull a fleece job here?

I think you have to trade down and get picks back with all the holes. Hopped on PFF and did a mock. I don't see it happening but if they can move down with Miami it is only 2 spots.  JOK would not have been a pick of mine but he is a legit first round talent and in this scenario added him to the D were he can play all over would be nice.

Still get OLine help, RB, WR and CB addressed.

Out of all of these mock sims, PFF is hands down the most unrealistic.

It’s a double edge sword cause there’s a lot of talent at 34 which is tempting. But recouping a couple of 3rd rounders is enticing also

Yup, but there will also be a lot of talent at 38, 39, 41, etc. in my opinion.  Can’t go too far and it completely depends on what tier of players JD is looking at and how many are in there. But, I expect that if the Jets trade back anywhere from 5 to 10 spots they will end up taking a player that many of us would’ve been happy with at 34.

After hitting quarterback and OL (once so far), the Jets are really sitting in a position where they have four or five needs that are relatively equal. I could make a case that WR, CB, edge, LB, OL (for a second time) are all in the same vicinity of needing an upgrade without being a completely blatant hole.

If we are to trade down let it only be a few spots and pick up another 4th round, if there is a  player we like in the 3rd we can use one of our three 4ths and two fifths to trade back up again.

I think joe will target players tonight rather than just trade back for the sake of extra picks.

I think you are rigth. But I woudl imagine that CB and OL are the top two priorities.

The more I think about this the more I see Dallas and LV being ideal partners and for two reasons.  The ND linebacker fits the Raiders wanting to build the defense but only drafting players from teams who compete the BCS final four while Dallas needs secondary help and the TCU safety is local highly rated.  Both teams with multiple 3rd's and both owners wanting to be aggresive for different reasons (age and selling tickets)

Beyond Jacksonsville taking either I would be surprised if these are not the teams trading up to top of 2nd

A sick part of me wants to stay put and draft Jenkins to finish the OL rebuild

It’s not sick at all. Obviously many of us like Jenkins and are surprised he could still be there at 34, but the question is whether he is a difference maker? if you want to put him at RT is he a major upgrade from Fant who is still under contract for two more years? Would the Jets get more bang for their buck by upgrading at LB with a guy like JOK? Would adding WR Elijah Moore be a better move regardless of whether Crowder stays one more year or not? Would getting Saleh an Edge rusher like Ojulari or Perkins help jumpstart his defense at a premier position?

For those of us familiar with economics, the number 34 pick is truly a question about “opportunity cost” if nothing else.

Could be. But I have been one of the few around here who really thinks an edge/LEO guy is what Saleh wants on  Defense before a CB.

JD will trade 34 and recoup the 2 3rd rounders. He will get a 2 for 1 trade back. We have so many positions that need to be upgraded that its a no brainer here.

The only way I trade back is if we move 6-8 spots back and grab a 3rd. There’s quality players on the board at the moment. JOK is a top 20 player. Come on!

for what though? just for the sake of having a pick in the 3rd round? i don't understand this logic.

The logic is there will be very good players available in the 3rd round and as of now, we don't have a 3rd round pick.

I’m going to assume that you been watching this team and that we’re in dire need of new bodies. Having one one pick, no matter how high, over the next two rounds to me, makes no sense

so far, JD has addressed 2 areas of need in the first round: QB and Oline. We still need a CB, RB, and edge rusher.

There’s lots of good players in both the second and third round in those areas to be to be had.

trade down in the lower 2nd if that gets you a third.

I mean if you can force the raiders into a raider style overpay...or anyone else for that matter...I say take it and run. We obviously have holes and several places to put prospects. Only question is if joe has an unquestionable grade on one of the guys left. In that case, you stay in and take it. Very hard to go wrong here tbh.

The Chiefs would be an interesting trade down scenario. They have two late 2nd rd picks. I'm not sure I'd want to drop that far down though

Raiders @ 48.  Then we get their #80 in round 3.  But I'm sure they are pissed off at us for stealing AVT. But then again Mayuck is a draft moron so I could see it happening. 🙃

Jenkins could start at RG and be an immediate significant upgrade from VanRotten.  In a year or two he could slide to RT to replace Fant, if necessary.

AVT and Jenkins, despite being rookies, would be immediate upgrades at both G spots and both have the potential to slide outside later, if needed.

Still, I'm guessing JD trades back.

No, even if we drop 5-6 spots, a third is minimum...and better be a high one...

If we come away with this draft it will make trading with the Dolfags palatable.   We nab AVT, Dickerson, Green and the best blocking TE in this draft, I might will need a very, very cold shower!

All jokes aside, this draft would be the mother lode. Only gripe I might have is passing on an Edge for Dickerson but if he is rated higher than the edge players available than so be it.  Man, JOT, Joseph on defense and AVT, Green, Dickerson, Tremble, Darden, Herbert on offense... all I can say is GET ER DONE TANNY!!!  ;-)

I feel disgusting for saying this, but I had an ever so fleeting thought today about drafting Barmore and pairing him with Quinnen to create a terrifying defensive front. Couldn’t believe the thought made its way into my consciousness but it did. I am ashamed.

As well you should be.

Actually some NY Jets fans are.

Good to know you aren't one of them.

Which NY Jets fans are hoping for the worst? And what worst, exactly, are they hoping for?

Many disgruntled with the Zach Wilson pick.

Opinions voiced about him getting injured and failing here.

I'm not hoping for the worst.  But I can see the potential of the worst if Wilson becomes Darnold Mach II.

I know people don't think teams don't use the value chart anymore but I believe they still look at it, if we were to trade back and receive a decent 3rd round pick we will have to go back as far as the 50s.

The only exception is if a team is desperate for a player and I can't see a player on the board that any team will be that desperate for.
