I think you're reading too far into it.

"Reading into it"?  It is the exact meaning of the statement. Franchise history is Franchise History. Cimini is just wrong. If he meant "Post Merger Franchise history" he should have typed that. The guy IS a professional you know. He gets paid to write this sh*t. He's not just some guy posting to a message board.

I knew this but, if Cimini actually did, he should’ve mentioned it. I suspect he brain-farted, though.

Or, perhaps, he expected his readers to have more brainpower than a rotten turnip.

Just FYI Guys:  Joe Willie doesn't need you guys to defend his honor.

“Highest drafted QB in franchise history (in the common era)”

He wasn't drafted in the common era he was drafted when there were 2 separate leagues.. And in the AFL he was taken 1st by the Jets.. Gale Sayers was drafted 5 th but chose to got to the Bears. Here's a example..

Draft: Chicago Bears in the 1st round (4th overall) of the 1965 NFL Draft., Kansas City Chiefs in the 1st round (5th overall) of the 1965 AFL Draft.

This is a paragraph from an article by Rich Cimini today...anyone see anything wrong with it?

New coach Robert Saleh hasn't revealed his plan for Wilson, but the organization's hope is that he will be ready to start by Week 1. After years of inconsistency at the position, the Jets are confident that Wilson -- the highest-drafted quarterback in franchise history -- can be a long-term fix.

So, the key here is not AFL, NFL, CFL or ******* any other FL...he said the highest drafted quarterback in franchise history and that is Joe Namath...PERIOD!
