Health tips: live longer and stronger

Weighed in at 276 today.  At my peak (late March) I was hovering around 300 lbs.  

I want the weight loss to go faster but I'm headed in the right direction.  

Hopefully one day a few months or a year or so from now I'll be able to start a "No more Mr Fat Guy, Redux" thread like @Jet_Engine1's.  :)

Other than giving you a bit more fiber, doesn't really make much difference from a good loaf made with white flour.  Carbs are carbs.  Just look for bread made with a few simple ingredients and free of additional sweeteners or preservatives.  And cut back on the amount of other carbs in a day when you consume bread.

The French have it right as their baguette is, by law, to only have flour, salt, yeast and water as ingredients.

Congrats on the weight loss.

Healthiest you can do is plant-based; only proven diet to actually show angiographic reversal of atherosclerosis (aka hardening of the arteries), but it's not for everyone. Certainly not for me. But if you're a young guy and had your first MI, I would strongly consider it.

It fundamentally changes the way you view women and sex; operates like any addictive substance (too much dopamine), can destroy intimacy you experience with others due to the prism through which you view the world.  You start to operate in a “fantasy world” where any situation with an attractive woman (or even not so attractive women and men) can be sexualized in your brain.  This happens with or without your realization it’s happening and directly impacts your behavior as a result.

This only really impacts truly addicted people who have been in that state for years, and so how much porn is too much varies depending on situation.  But for me once daily or even 4-5x a week was more than enough to cause me a lot of problems.  Once the neural pathways in the brain are used to that regular dopamine fix that comes with the addictive pattern, you’re in trouble.

that's interesting.  i have heard that - but mostly from the side of anti porn activists.

the dopamine fix causes lots of issues - video games are another one.

And our phones.

No matter where it is you get it from, too much dopamine is a problem.  It is strongly linked to anxiety and depression.  And everything in the digital category is designed to get us addicted, fueled by information we provide with every button tap.  It's an uphill battle for all of us and we are rarely aware its happening.

Like everything else, moderation (and an occasional several days/weeks break or detox when needed) is important.
