Happy Birthday, Joe Namath

You really are a... Troll.

I never wanted or liked Adam Gase.  I merely supported the following strategies:

1.  Offensive head coach

2.  Non-rookie head coach

3.  Stop the revolving door of head coaches

Any rational Jets fan would have wanted to try the same approach after 50 years of sucking the other way.

As for Joe Namath, he is no Jets fan.  Unless the franchise is throwing roses at his feet, he sh-ts on us more than you sh-t on everyone else.

@SAR I  you say this all the time to others.

It's time its said to you.

You aren't a REAL NY JETS fan especially when you bash Joe Namath.

No reason for this when you defend Adam Gase.

Sorry but I speak the truth.

I was the biggest Joe Namath fan on the planet until he started trolling us for followers.  That's 40 years for those counting.  Waving the Namath pom-pom's.  But no more.  And, never forget, his embarassing, selfish behavior cost us a second Super Bowl, perhaps a third.

I don't defend Adam Gase.  He's gone.  I don't care.  But Robert Saleh damned well better win 8 games this year or I expect Joe Namath to start whining again.

Old people whine, especially when they’ve waited the majority of their life to have the franchise they brought to the promise land to do it again. Poor guys doing freaking Medicare supplement commercials and still waiting for the Jets to repeat. He didn’t really get all too critical before Mark Sanchez and Rex Ryan’s defense let him and all of us down. But go ahead and blame the soon to be octogenarian for being critical of this pathetic franchise. It’s cool, just do you.

Happy Birthday video from the Jets.

What an arm

Thnx for this J N.

His playing days were way before my time (born in 85) but my grandpa absolutely loved that man and still to this day I miss his Broadway Joe stories he'd rave to me and my older brother about as kids.

I remember when I was about 7 or 8 I'll never forget my grandpa was telling me a story about how after a game @ Shea he ran into Namath at a bar in Queens a couple hours later and a couple of hot shot Buffalo fans were busting Joe's balls and then one of those Buffalo fans got a little too loud with Joe; my grandfather and his friends whooped the man so bad that not even his friends would save him and then they escorted those loud mouths out of the bar. Joe Namath bought them all shots immediately afterwards. That was my favorite Namath story ever. My gramps told me, Joe couldn't be touched in Queens.

I couldn't care less what anyone says. If you don't absolutely love Joe Namath; you're not a Jets fan.

And if you'll defend Adam Gase but then disrespect Joe Namath; you're nothing but a pathetic troll (you know who you are).

What do I know?  Suggest you read a book.

In 1969, with homefield against the Chiefs in a playoff game, Joe Namath was 14 for 40 with 3 interceptions and couldn't get the ball in from the 1 yard line on 4 tries costing us back to back Super Bowls.  14 for 40.  Think about that.

In 1971, Joe Namath, after a predicable interception, made a shoulder tackle in a preseason game, costing him the year.

Two seasons later, Joe Namath, recovering from a blown knee, decided to go water skiing in the Bahamas and blew out both his achilles tendons costing him another season.

What a genius.  Bad in-game decision making, preseason shoulder tackles, and water skiing on injured knees.  The guy was a selfish train wreck who had one fluke season where things all came together for him.  Hell, he almost blew that too, up all night on a bender and arriving back to his hotel at 5AM the day of the AFL Championship at Shea.

He was a pathetic Alcoholic no different than Mantle.  He should never have been allowed to play but the Jets and the AFL needed him.  He was horribly exploited to save the Jets and the league.  He was tough as nails and self medicated himself with booze.

The story isn't black and white. Life is nuanced.  We all have a dark side and are capable of both self destruction and destruction of others.  Joe was exploited in pain and not that bright but he did live up to his contract.  He got eyeballs on the league.  He took the Jets to a championship game and won and he did it all in excruciating pain both physical and mental.   Overall he was great for the fans and the league both the AFL and NFL.  He was one of the most exciting players to suit up.  He was like the Cyclone in Coney Island.  He was an extremely nice person who almost never had anything bad to say.  He enjoyed life in spite of the pain and he paid a price for the pain.

You sound like a self entitled child who thinks he's entitled to a winner.  He was a physical wreck.  He was self medicating just to get out on the field.  He was drawing up the O in the dirt without being managed.   He delivered a championship.   Parcells with the greatest coaching staff maybe ever assembled and a QB having an alltime great year with a HOF center and Running back couldn't do it.

Youre blaming Namath for making a tackle, for being a warrior football player?  Do you watch football?  Not only watch it, appreciate the mentality of players?

Namath played his entire career on borrowed time, he destroyed his body to play the game.  Bitching and moaning that he allowed himself to get injured, that he should have pussied out on a tackle because with the benefit of hindsight you think it cost the Jets and your chance at wearing different championship apparel to your stupid PSL seat.

And yes I got a copy of that book when it first was published, from Kriegel.  Hard to believe you read it if you came away with those fake always.  You missed the theme of the book.  By a mile.

You need a break

Happy birthday Broadway Joe Willie White Shoes Namath.

He'll always be apart of my childhood memories because when my grandpa was still alive, all of the stories he told me about his favorite Namath will live within my memories and my heart and soul, forever.

Thnx you for giving my grandpa so many memories and a SB title to rave about!!!

Every Jets fan born after 1965 or so has the same best Jets memory: listening to dad or grandpa talk about Joe Willie.

LOL, yeah, like that's my MO.  It's the exact opposite.  We're entitled to nothing except one thing:

That the players whose salaries we pay for give 200%.  That they represent themselves properly and always put the team ahead of their own selfish interests.  That's it.  Winning and losing is out of their control.  But their own behavior absolutely is.

Their careers, if they're lucky, last 5 years and they make millions of dollars.  They are expected to control themselves from age 21 to age 25.  They then have 50 years to screw around and act reckless.  Namath, like Mantle, like Gooden, like Strawberry, like so many other players, partied way too hard and acted irresponsibly during their prime years and thus poisoned their own locker rooms and cost their teams multiple championships.

I respect Namath for the one year he was able to control himself but I hold him in contempt for what he did with all the rest.  Irresponsible throws, irresponsible turnovers, irresponsible drinking, irresponsible leadership, and above all else-   irresponsibility with a fragile body that he knew before signing his contract was already shot.

Anyone who bashes Joe Namath is not a real NY Jets fan.

So if a news story ran next week that said Mekhi Becton went water skiing in the Bahamas while nursing a foot injury and blew out both of his achilles tendons and was lost for the season, you reaction would be, what?

And if you were watching a preseason game in 2004 and saw Chad Pennington, while coming back from a season-ending wrist injury, throw himself head-first into a linebacker after throwing a meaningless interception in a meaningless preseason game and was lost for another season, your reaction would be, what?

By that logic Parcells was an amazingly sh*tty HC because he melted down against Detroit and made his faud with O'Donel personal and cost us the playoffs.

I wouldn’t care.  I’m not some moron who thinks athletes live in a bubble in the off-season.  Namath injury while skiing had nothing to do with his knee, didn’t make his knee worse.  what’s the point of repeating it?  Did he injury the knee?

Did you ever watch Namath?  No way you did.  Go back to praising Sanchez

"Joe Namath believes he needs another operation, this time to repair a torn hamstring muscle in his left leg. “The hamstring,” says the New York Jets quarterback, “limits my mobility more than my knees do.” Strangely, the hamstring injury occurred nearly two years ago in a Bahamas water‐skiing accident when his tow‐rope snapped. Throughout the last two seasons it was seldom mentioned by either Namath or the Jets’ medical staff."
