Defense Wins Championships Posted June 4, 2021 Share Posted June 4, 2021 Well he's breaking down athletically at almost 37 years old. This was his 18th NBA season (compared to 15 for MJ). MJ looked like a shell of himself during his last two NBA seasons in Washington, too. I hate comparing GOATs in different eras etc but one thing I hate about MJ fans? They only talk about his 6-0 Finals record. They don't talk about his failures. They pretend he went undefeated and never lost. 1984-1985: 7th seed. Eliminated in the 1st round. 1-3 loss to Milwaukee. 1985-1986. 8th seed. Eliminated in the 1st round. 0-3 swept by Boston. 1986-1987. 8th seed. Eliminated in the first round. 0-3 swept by Boston. 1987-1988. 3rd seed. Eliminated in the 2nd round 1-4 to Detroit. 1988-1989. 6th seed. Eliminated in the ECF 3rd round. 2-4 to Detroit. 1989-1990. 3rd seed. Eliminated in the ECF 3rd round. 3-4 to Detroit. His first 6 NBA seasons. Got his face kicked in by Milwaukee, Detroit and could NEVER beat LARRY BIRD and his Celtics. I don't care how "young" he was. MJ and his Bulls didn't start winning until his 7th season in the league. He had to first wait for Bird to retire and then for the Pistons to become old and aged out. So I guess he became "the greatest" by default. 1994-1995. 5th seed. Eliminated in the 2nd round. 2-4 to Orlando. 2001-2002. 10th seed (Wizards). No Playoffs. 2002-2003. 10th seed (Wizards). The East was loaded early in Jordan's career and don't forget he barely played in the 85-86 season when they got the 8 seed and he gave Boston all they could handle (a team in the conversation for best of all time). The bulls had passed the Celtics long before bird retired. He won his first championship before bird retired. The Pistons were still great when they swept them in '91. While Jordan lost in Rd 1 his first 3 seasons Lebron has missed the playoffs twice (including one while still close to his prime) and now lost in Rd 1. Lebron dominated a weak east then won a half a title in LA after GS lost all their key guys that season. Lebron needed to form superteams to win, Jordan did not. Did he need talent around him? Of course but he didn't run to other teams to ensure winning. They toyed with the Knicks by allowing those series to go 6-7 games(only went 7 once). Would Lebron have changed things?
